Ever heard of a Grapple? (No, not for scaling buildings.)

I was walking around a Japanese market/shopping center with my wife last week and we were shocked when we found a plastic container with four apples in it, or so we thought. The label on the container said they were patent pending Grapples (pronounced "grape-puhl"), a cross 'tween grapes and apples. It really shocked the hell out of us when we gave them a wiff because they look exactly like standard old Gala apples, but they smell very strongly like grapes. We didn't buy them because it was like $7 for 4, but I've never even heard of those suckers. I've heard of Broccoflower, but not Grapples. Have you? If you've eaten one, what's it taste like?

They taste somewhat like grapes, for some value of "somewhat" and for some value of "grapes".

Yes, I've had a wedge of one once. The olfactory sensation is that of grapes, but the flavor was not exactly as grape-like as the smell.
Insert obnoxious but pithy remark here

    I enjoy them.

I agree with filker0. It smelt like Grape Soda but I found it hard to determine what the flavor was like. The texture turned me off, as did the price. And "grape-puhl" is stupid. I prefer a short vowel sound for the 'a'.

I personally wouldn't like to try anything like that. I would be worried about any long term health affects of eating something unnatural.

Mmmm, cant wait till thoes japenese scientists get around to raw pig. Emmmm raw bacon... Just what I always wanted.

I've seen thoes around, I dont particularyly enjoy grapes, so I never tried them. I bet they're just soaked in grape soda, thats how they smell anyways :P. If it is a GMO, I'll have to try it. GMO's are tasty, mmmm.
