    MSVC++ Standard or Professional?

    Which version should I get? I can get Standard for $50 and Professional for $100 (from school). Is the professional really worth the extra $50 if I'm a complete newbie? Will I use those extra tools?

    Yes, and yes. The Professional edition includes an optimising compiler and MFC DLL linkings. Without these, you'll never really be able to distribute anything you make. Even as a newbie, you should look ahead to the possibility you will make a program you want to give to someone else!

    no competition.... PRO

    the only worry you will have is just how much you will want visual studio 7 and the .net framework. As you have just started it will probably be at least two years before you need that so I'd say you will get your moneys worth from the pro edition.

    btw I use msvc pro. lol
    Free the weed!! Class B to class C is not good enough!!
