    DOS Programming board

I was just wondering, why is there a DOS Programming board if it's not listed? Didn't know there was one? Try this: http://cboard.cprogramming.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8
Is that a work in progress, or what? Is there a reason it's not listed under the Platform Specific Boards, when that's where it's located? Just wondering.

That board *used to be* somewhat active and contain a few posts.

Oh, the mods or admins just wiped the threads? Why did they leave it up though?

hmm wouldn't a DOS program just be a standard c/c++ program?

But you'd find batch file work, assembly and many other things at that board. Not just DOS-specific C/C++. I believe it was Thantos who jumped in there swingin several times with his sharp assembly sword.

Much the same as we have a windows specific and linux specific board; sure you can write ansi C/C++ but there are also platform specific things you'd want to do.

Didn't we have a board vote last year to get rid of it, as it was very empty?

If I'm not mistaken, and I could be, all the posts on it were moved to the "Brief History of CP.com." I could be wrong there. I know we didn't intenttionally delete them all...they could have been dropped in an upgrade I guess...

We closed it due to inactivity.

We had a discussion some time ago to remove the DOS board since it's relevance was waning due to the release of Windows XP and finally good DirectX and OpenGL SDK's that actually helped you write games in Windows more than they hindered you.

There was a time when that board was extremely active with assembly language related posts. However since the need for assembly has somewhat died (not completely, though) due to most everything being done on the hardware (specifically for games), there really isn't any need to have the board just for that. Besides this is a C/C++ board and I appreciate the fact that for the most part we have stayed the course and stuck with one language.

Old flashdaddeeans obviously can see what happens when a board has too many focuses - it usually doesn't last or dies. Flashdaddee has been revamped to be fair, but I doubt it's as popular as it was.

The admins and mods of this board have done a tremendous job in keeping it a great place to come to learn, discuss, and share information concerning different programming tasks that can be done in C/C++.
