Yes, I saw that. But what I thought you related that with C++ and Java. So what I meant was that for getting a job the best thing would be to learn both languages.
I only know about the job market in Europe and I only know about the world of embedded systems, since that's where I am working. And there I see that C/C++ is still important, but the need for Java programmers in embedded systems is increasing.
Let's see what happen. We to see the market strength & stability (past and future: next 5+ years ) for this two.
Okay.. I got that you wanted to say that both is important.
Can you tell me little more about job market of Europe for application programmer and little more about you?

The job market in Europe is not stable in all sections of IT. In mobile phone and communications industry it is very unstable. When looking at automotive applications, it's becoming more stable.
I started as software engineer at a small company which was involved in digital audio processing. The developed hardware and software for audio-coding and audio-communication. Then I moved to a larger company which was involved in developing embedded systems for a wide range of applications. Car electronics, TV's, mobile phones, etc. The reason for this was that I wanted to do something more than just making code, I also wanted to be more involved in software design issues.
Most of my work is done in C and C++, at this moment, but I think that soon I also will be creating software in Java. Mainly because of the application of internet technologies in many kinds of systems.
Knowledge of and experience with programming languages is important. But this is not enough. Most companies don't just look at your knowledge and experience with programming languages! They also look at your knowledge of software design. So they will ask if you know about OOP, UML and that kind of things. UML is a hot item at this time, it's the standard language used for developing object oriented designs.
Note that I do not know a lot about other sections of IT. I can't tell you much about job market in database technologies and internet technologies.
But at this time in Europe the economy is not very well and many companies are looking for ways to lower their costs. This results in little work and a decreasing need for software engineers. Though experts say that at the end of 2002 the economy will be much better. I hope they are right, since then the amount of work will increase and the job market will become more stable than it is now.

Yeah.. I also got that UML is the next ... And OOP is must.
Who knows about job market in database technologies and internet technologies? And which one (C++/Java) is comparatively stable and dominating till now and probability in future. What about North America?

MS Visual C++ and Borland C++Builder are used a lot when building Windows- and networking-applications. In electronics there are more specific compilers used from Keil or HiTech.
Another important part of a developers environment consists of a version management system. Like CVS, PVCS, Continuus or SourceSafe when using Visual C++.
Only dinosaurs use VC++6!
