I encourage you all to do one thing that costs no money but is extremely important: Donate blood.
Something better than blood would be those chemical substitutes. No risk of diseases that way.
Edit: Did a bit of searching on Google and found out that there are substitutes that duplicate the oxygen-carrying function of hemoglobin. Pretty nice eh?

And how is that helpful in the context of this thread? I don't think people are going to be able to provide any blood substitute and the fact of the matter is that we need blood NOW.
Perhaps. But I seriously doubt you'd ever collection the required amount of blood. Not to mention they'd have to check the type it is and for the presence of diseases. Not to mention that blood also has to be stored a certain way. Substitutes have far fewer restrictions.
Edit: Before I forget, something that I'm curious about is how the heck they are going to get the pumps in the flooded area working when they're underwater.

Sure, but we have an infrastructure in place for collecting blood and testing it. Absolutely a synthetic substitute would be better, but it doesn't seem to be available yet. Thantos gave a useful suggestion for what you can do to help without spending any money (although I'm not sure if there's really a blood shortage right now because most of the injuries don't seem to be trauma).

I'm going to start giving blood as often as possible ASAP. In the UK you can't start till your 18, that's a year away for me

I know that the organization that pretty much handles the blood supply for the sacramento region has stated they sent whole blood to the region, thus creating a shortage here.
Look at the number of hospitals that were abondoned, any blood they had is useless now thus you again have a shortage.
Also sean is right, there is always a small shortage.
