I am joining the Marine corps soon, not sure what MOS I am aiming for but definately infantry.

Oh, that picture I posted is a Marine but isn't me, it is just somebody I know. He's an MP working the beat at Quantico VA but may be assigned to Iraq as a field MP. I've chosen the soft life and gone to college instead. I have a friend at SOI right now, and I met an 0311 Marine at school, back from Iraq. He's told me some intense/scary stories though...it's really scary actually meeting somebody that has the 1000 yds stare. He said the ARMY was getting several mortar attacks daily in a region near Nas Ariya. They sent the Marines into the area, and of course thye have the different camo pattern (digitals) and the insurgents evidently recognize it, and the mortar attacks ceased immediately. When I pressed him why, he said, quite simply, when the Marines get attacked they are absolutely ........ing ruthless. I gave him all of my beer, and a pat on the back. Brave kid.

Best of luck. I'm sure whoie can give you pointers as how to best prepare for basic. Are you in the delayed entry program right now?

I dug up this link for you. It's a very comprehensive overview of Military service in general, but gives pointers on how to prepare adequately and even suggests outside literature. Seems reliable (the author is/was a service member)

Cool. As I understand it, Quantico isn't actually a town, rather it's just the Marine base. Is this correct? I've never actually been there. As an aside, one of my insane friends is doing Marine OCS at Quantico (I believe he is there as I type this). I worked out with him for a semester at school, excellent way to ruin my self esteem

hahahaha, nice dude. Very nice. How is it that you fly airplanes? My Marine OCS buddy actually got to pilot a cessna after signing up for Marine OCS, he wants to be a pilot and of course you need to be an officer (I don't know what model or make of the plane, I don't know much about airplanes). Piloting the cessna was sort of a cookie for signing up I guess (this took place in New Hampshire).

I think Quantico is just a base.

I got my PPL from a local aero club when I was in the chair force.. went in.. put down some ca$h.. and 3 months & 40 hours of flying later.. I was a pilot. All you really need is this --> $$$

). I actually used to want to be a pilot when I was younger, but I've got no eyesight and have since lost the passion, but I still find this a very interesting subject. I went to an airshow at Brunswick, Maine prior to Sept 11. I got to sit in the cockpit of a B1 lancer (had to wait an hour and a half in line). They also had an F117 nighthawk, surrounded by two rings of rope, and a sign saying if you crossed underneath the outer ring of rope they had the right to arrest you, and if you crossed underneath the second line of rope the nice gentlemen (Marines, actually) guarding the craft had the order to shoot you on spot.

rent your own A/C.. C152's usually start out at like maybe $70'ish per hour.. B1B lancer is the only supersonic bomber in the USAF fleet. F117's have a tendency to crash.

I was going to post a picture of a one of those male underwear models with the defined abs and shaved chest, but I don't like the idea of sitting at my computer on a Saturday night searching Google Images for, "Male Underwear Model".

I did that once. For the A+ cert class I was helping with we have a "NEW" folder, and when it was upside down it looked like "M3N" so we were going to get a pic like that and post it on there just for laughs...we searched in the java room on google images and I may never be the same after. Who said school filters protect kids eyes? They most definately do not.

I'm still around (been sitting exams for the last few months), and hey! -I'm not old, OK?

I'm only a few years older than Govt. Not many.
