    Do Not Buy From Toshiba

    Here's the lowdown, folks:

I used to reccomend toshiba products to people, and I have been a repeat customer. But, now, I hope that the company crashes and burns. ****ty customer service, and getting routed to support centers somewhere in South America has changed all of that.

I bought a toshiba laptop in September, and it failed on November 11 as of this year. So what did I do. I sent it off to one of Toshiba's repair centers, as being a poor college student does not permit me to chuck out $200 on my own new hard drive. Guess what? It's now December first, and their promise of getting my o****ba back in three days is long past due. In fact, a recent telephone call to once again "Inquire" about the status of the machine said the parts were still on "hold". I'm thinking, "the ****ing thing was sent to a repair facility, how can it not have one measly little hard drive lying around, and why did it take three weeks to order one." Once again, a phone call was made to toshiba, and I told them to send me a new laptop, as not having it has caused me great distress in my computer accelerated English course. Their reply was "We can't do that." So after that, I told them to send me the part, and I'd fix it myself, and they said "we can't do that." After that, I told them to just send the **** heap back to me, unrepaired, and I'd shell out the $200 or $300 myself and fix it, to which the reply was "We do not know where your laptop is."

Now how about that, they lost my laptop. I played exactly by their rules: Taking it down to CompUSA in Fairlawn, Ohio, as they were listed on the Toshiba website as an authorized repair center who would repair the product under a warranty. The guy in CompUSA said that toshiba required them to ship it out to a repair center, so I said OK, and let them do their thing.

Well, I've been recieving calls every few days or so saying that they are still waiting on parts.

Thanks to this, my english class at the good ole University of Akron has been much harder than it should be, and the $2,000 laptop is in repair limbo.

Bottom line folks, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING TOSHIBA. Do not buy a computer, television, DVD player, nor anything else from them. In fact, if all of us can band together, then I'm sure we can force them out of business; and when they do, I will be there to point and laugh at the companies employees as they realize that their poor service will have caused them to go jobless and starve.

I will go Compaq before I ever go Toshiba again. Hell, I'll go HP before I ever go Toshiba again, and that would be stooping pretty low.

Well, when one is waiting three weeks for a simple repair that should have taken three days at most, then it get's to be a nuisance

    Next time go here:http://www.armcomputer.com.

The are the best I've seen anywhere. I've bought two notebooks
from them and still use them both. Never had a problem with
the Pentium 266. There's always a competent live voice to talk to.
Prices are very reasonable and way cheaper than Tushiba. Tushiba's are for people who like to think they're part of the hip
elite, but the real elite hip avoid them.

i too have had nothing but good products from toshiba... [granted coincidentally at the moment i don't have a piece of toshiba equipment...] however they are top when it comes to cdrom drives and many other non-computer devices...

speaking of which, i've obtained savv for just about ever piece of computer equipment except the burner... any general advice? seems logical enough since that's the most recent addition to the commonplace computer... i have a creative one right now and it's working nicely... my dad used an acer and that's nice too... a lot of it seems to boil down to the software you use... i heard nero is the standard, which is something i could hope for... [having a defacto standard for this type thing... or anything really... like sound blaster in general...]

also, could buffer underruns be a cause of the discs you use as well as on-the-fly settings? i recently got a new spindle of discs [at the buena park show i told you guys about] and it worked great at 8 speed on-the-fly... thanks for any advice...

try dixons stores! the screen on my laptop broke they collected, took 6 months to repair it despite me phoning daily! Charged me £325 for doing it and came back with a snapped battery. They were refusing to do anything about it until i threatened to start legal action, then suddenly they sent me a new battery :-0

my 2nd and 3rd computers are clones, I think they're the best 'cause you can mess with them and warranties are not void. But if you buy a brand computer, the warranty is void as soon as you open the box (that's what I've heard, anyway).

my fisrt PC is a Gateway 2000, but I was too young and I didn't know how to mess around with computers, but I changed the sound card, added more memory and changed the hard drive three years after.

DA, Nero is not nearly the standard cd burner program on the
net. Far from it. I don't use it at all anymore because it
    crashed a lot.

The standard cd burning program is CDR-WIN, which mainly
burns bin/cue files, which is the predominant cd image format
on the Net. Another program called Fireburnner is also very
good for burning bin/cues. The best image format I've seen
is the Clone CD format, or CCD. You rarely get a coaster when
you burn a ccd image. Win Image is another good program but
not as popular as those mentioned. For burning data cd's and
cd-rw's I use NTI CD maker Pro. Never a problem. I don't use
Adaptec Easy CD Creator because most of the cd's I burn are
in bin/cue format and although I hear ECC now burns them,
CDR-Win burned them long, long before Adaptec started.

Your last paragragh stumped me. Que hablo engles, por favor?
