    0) Where are you from? :

    Bismarck, ND, US

    1) How old are you? :

34 (for a couple more days)

    2) How old were you when you started learning a programming language? :

When did the TI-994A come out...1980-something?

    3) What was it ? :

    BASIC

    4) What were your motivations? :

Hm, thought it was a game platform like the Atari 2600?

I later went to college and got my BSEE and programming was not even an afterthought (I had some derogatory term I used to describe those with the computer option). A friend and co-worker introduced me to the embedded side and I discovered it was much easier to change a couple lines of code than to burn my fingers with a soldering iron.

    5) Do you program as a hobby ? :

    This stuff here.

    6) Whats the most effective way to learn programming in your opinion :

a- Experiencing (without reading books or tutorials).

Tip: "embellish" your resume and enjoy the trial by fire.

    7) When you were in the "learning" level (or if you are currently), how much time do you spend on learning programming daily?

    Hours.

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? :

    One of these days...

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood , or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time?

I generally do it about every day; whether or not I'm "into it" depends.

    10) If you learn from book(s) , how many pages do you read a day?

It has been a while since I've looked at a programming book; a chapter or two.

    11) Do you "get sick" of programming and leave it for a while? how long and how often?

I get sick of it sometimes, but never leave it.

    12) When you think that you can help someone in the programming boards , what would you do? :

b- Try to be %100 sure of your answer before posting either by google , compiling codes or any other way.

    13) Are you good at network and\or game programming? if not , do you think you will be in the next year?

    No, no, and no.

    14) Are you planning to get a programming job?

    Have one.

    15) Do you make money out of programming currently? (not talking about jobs)

    No.
    7. It is easier to write an incorrect program than understand a correct one.
    40. There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works.*

Not right now, i do it to learn and pass my classes

    6) Whats the most effective way to learn programming in your opinion :
a- Experiencing (without reading books or tutorials).
that helps a little after you know the basics of a language, reading code on forums like this
    b- online tutorials.
    a little
    c- books.
[b]Most important of all, i have a few books but havent finished none yet
    d- courses\lectures
I hate to put college down, but this has taught me nothing at all. thats why i bought the books in the first place.

    7) When you were in the "learning" level (or if you are currently), how much time do you spend on learning programming daily?
Sometimes i study everyday for 3-4 hours reading and doing exercises, sometimes i just read the forums and search for whatever piece of info i can find.

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? :
I have not reached that level yet

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood , or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time?
    Mood is important.

c- say whatever i know even if im not so sure.
I try to be suree 100%, otherwise i dont post at all, people are quick to give bad rep points when you mess up but when you do something good, they are not as fast.

    13) Are you good at network and\or game programming? if not , do you think you will be in the next year?
    No dont think so.

    14) Are you planning to get a programming job?
    Maybe,

    15) Do you make money out of programming currently? (not talking about jobs)
No money, i just give money right now, school, books, etc..

Not to show any disrespect or whatever, but Kybo_Ren said
    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? : 7. It was a program in QBasic that asked whether a person liked another person in my class or not and stored it.
just curious, what school did you go too? At 7 year old most kids are in first grade learning the ABC, and at your school they were teaching programming?
    When no one helps you out. Call google();

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? : Yet to happen.

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood , or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time? There was a post about this. There is no particular times I don't want to program its just random.

    10) If you learn from book(s) , how many pages do you read a day?
I don't learn C++ from books, but I'm currently reading A brief history on time by Steven Hawking and I only read about 10 pages a day.

    0) Where are you from?
    North East Iowa, USA

    1) How old are you?
    20

    2) How old were you when you started learning a programming language?
Not counting HTML, as its a markup language 18

    3) What was it ?
    C++

    4) What were your motivations?
It was part of a class for my AA, which I left and am now in a CS major

    5) Do you program as a hobby ?
    A little bit yea

    6) Whats the most effective way to learn programming in your opinion?
Reading and trying it out, Tutorials and Books can both get the job done, but Books tend to be better quality.

    7) When you were in the "learning" level (or if you are currently), how much time do you spend on learning programming daily?
Alot? Seeing as I am still in school, I would say I am still in my "learning" level, then again I think their is always something new to learn

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy?
    Haven't gotten that far yet

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood, or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time?
    Any time.

    10) If you learn from book(s) , how many pages do you read a day?
Depends, I tend to use them more for reference then straight forward reading.

    11) Do you "get sick" of programming and leave it for a while? how long and how often?
    Haven't yet.

    12) When you think that you can help someone in the programming boards, what would you do?
Try, and hope if I make a mistake some one with more knowledge corrects me. Although if I don't feel I know enough on the subject sometimes I won't say any thing, or I might give what little insight I have, but state I don't know too much.

    13) Are you good at network and\or game programming? if not, do you think you will be in the next year? I am currently reading Unix Network Programming Vol. 1 off and on, and I think I have a basic grasp on the subject. Also my AA was in Network administration and engineering (I didn't complete it), but I did get my CCNA.

    14) Are you planning to get a programming job?
    That or Network Admin/Systems Admin

    15) Do you make money out of programming currently? (not talking about jobs)
    Nope

Too add, and people feel free to add them to their response
    16) If you happen to own any books on programming, which one is your favorite, or if you use websites, which one?
Well, seeing as I use both, my favorite book would have to be The C++ Programming Language (Special Edition) by Bjarne Stroustrup, and my favorite site happens to be here (cprogramming.com).

    17) What other lanugages have you learned since you started?
C (The starting point for C++), PHP, Perl, Shell scripting, and ADA (we use it in our Data structures class at UNI (thats the Universities acronym, not short for University, as the teacher used to work for Rockwell Colins writing software for aircraft.)

    0) Where are you from? :

    Australia

    1) How old are you? :

as old as Salem but act as old as cerin (given the chance.)

    2) How old were you when you started learning a programming language? :

teens, before the home PC was common.

    3) What was it ? :

BASIC I think, didn’t pay much attention.

    4) What were your motivations? :

I had pulled a borrowed PC apart and put it back together. Now I wanted to make a game (and record it to a cassette tape!)

    5) Do you program as a hobby ? :

when I need an app to help me

    6) Whats the most effective way to learn programming in your opinion :

    Depends on the person.

    7) When you were in the "learning" level (or if you are currently), how much time do you spend on learning programming daily?

I still spend 1-2 hours each day learning. Currently how to port very complex SQL from Oracle to SQL Server (PS/SQL to T-SQL) and ASP.NET.

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? :

I love all my apps as they grow-up, then I set them free….

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood , or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time?

Part of team work (in development) is knowing when one of your team-mates is in one of those moods (and leave them to it or get them to 'vent').

    10) If you learn from book(s) , how many pages do you read a day?

I look at a specific topic and read all I can.

    11) Do you "get sick" of programming and leave it for a while? how long and how often?

Yes. Reading code (currently for online stock trading) for six hours a day (for two weeks so far) can tend to grate / make your eyes bleed…….(4 million lines of asp, VB, C++ and SQL)

    12) When you think that you can help someone in the programming boards , what would you do? :

make clear if I am not 100% sure, give range of solutions.

    13) Are you good at network and\or game programming? if not , do you think you will be in the next year?

    some of it.

    14) Are you planning to get a programming job?

    Have one.

    15) Do you make money out of programming currently? (not talking about jobs)

Programming used to be a hobby.
Now I contract and/or work full time at my hobby.
The downturn has just made the work less interesting (very luckily for me I still have well paid work)

    0) where are you from ? : Louisiana, USA currently in Virginia, USA

    1) How old are you? :
21 but I still prefer to act younger.

    2) How old were you when you started learning a programming language? :
    10

    3) What was it ? :
MicroWorld/LogoWriter and very soon afterwards Basic

    4) What were your motivations? :
Fun – I loved the logical challenge

    5) Do you program as a hobby ? :
Not any more. I mostly program in E-Prime now, based on VB, to make psychological tests. It’s a wonderful skill to have to test cognition and reaction times. Of course I'm lazy, so I generally use the GUI interface to setup the program instead of writing it all by hand...

    6) What’s the most effective way to learn programming in your opinion :
A/D – Depends on the person, but I need peer interaction, and teachers don’t hurt either…except when they are clueless.

    7) When you were in the "learning" level (or if you are currently), how much time do you spend on learning programming daily? I spent 1-2 hrs, I no longer program

    8) How old were you when you made your first program that people loved or your first that people enjoy? : 11

    9) Do you program\learn depending on your mood , or its something you enjoy doing every day and all the time? Most of the time I love to learn

    10) If you learn from book(s) , how many pages do you read a day?
40-80 assigned, another 20-50 on my own (usually not programming related)

    11) Do you "get sick" of programming and leave it for a while? how long and how often?
I stopped programming a couple of years ago, not because I was sick of it but because I’d moved on to other interests – i.e. psychology and education.

    12) When you think that you can help someone in the programming boards , what would you do? :
A/B. I like to point people in directions so they can figure things out on their own, but I try to be right before I do so.

    13) Are you good at network and\or game programming? if not , do you think you will be in the next year?
    I’m not particularly good anymore.

    14) Are you planning to get a programming job?
    Nope, teaching or psychology
