    The constitution MUST be ammended!!

It must be ammended such that any sentient race or being from any planet, or source of existance have the same equal and unalienable rights as man (such representing both male and female humanity).

Now here is my reasoning, stick with me for a moment.

Lets assume that there is life on other planets. Lets assume some have become advanced enough for interstellar travel and have thus been in the vacinity of our planet. Lets also assume that they would posses some kind of computer like technology, and even wireless functionality. We therefor also can assume that this technology would be far more advanced and efficient then our own, seeing as they have perfected space venture afterall. Now, with that in mind we should consider that they would be able to wirelessly access most if not all of our digital data storage (read the internet!). Having pilfered through all the data and information, they have certainly come to the conclusion that no protection in the shape of equal rights would be garanteed them should they make their presance/existance public. In fact I think thats the only reason they arn't landing at superbowls and other high populated events. They are affraid of disection, I mean lets face it wouldn't you be?

So I say, we ammend the constitution even though we dont have FACTUAL proof sentient life exists anywhere else in the galaxy, just incase they do but are too affraid to stop by and visit.

    end rant.

But what if they land outside the USA?

No wish to flatten your desire, but there's a whole world outside your borders that doesnt care about the constitution.

And anyway, ET made it without having to rely on protection of the law.

So long as they land in the US they would be fine. Thats quite a large area of land. Who cares if other countries don't get the benefits, so long as the aliens befriend my country I'll be happy.

EDIT: We also know they would never land in canada either way. Simply because they charge an exit fee to leave. $5 dollars just to leave the country psh.

Well, on the US's head be it! If your "liberal" ammendment then goes on to attract all aliens, then you can't complain when an alien invasion force focuses on the USA.

Dont expect the rest of the world to help you out of that scenario! Oh, how France would laugh!

It's not all ALF & ET you know?

What if that life forms are just "advanced" enough for space travel, not for communication or even computers ? What if space travel can also be reached by single aliens who mutated ? We had a million years to mutate and just because we never found the space travel mutated gene doesn't mean it cannot develop in another solar system.

My exhaustive study of countless movies, tv shows, news reports and web pages show that aliens always land in the USA.

The Thing landed in Antarctica, and the Predator first landed in South America. Still, it took Americans to "sort them out".

You cant rely on that though: Will Smith is getting old, he might not be able to "kick ET's butt" for a second time.

I think the whole point being missed here, is that there wouldn't be a "what if they landed outside of the us?" question. The whole world lacks some kind of alien equal rights addendum to their government. If we the US altered our constitution the aliens would then CHOOSE to land in the US because they KNEW we had equal rights privlages here. Its not a lets change it incase they accidently land here, its lets change it so the purposely land here.

Excepting nvoigt's idea that there may be some sort of "evolved" spaceman somewhere, do you really think that a form of life that has developed a way of travelling and area of space needed to reach us, and then suffered that gargantuan effort would settle in the USA because of “favourable legal climate”?

I think they would land in my country: Great Britain. Why, well it’s always cold and dark here, so it will better match the gloom of space that they have no doubt become acclimatised to. You can’t match that with your “constitution”.

    !!!

    <incredulity>
They land in the US, without permission, without a visa, without having been searched and treated like animals at the immigration desks, in possession of advanced technology?

    They'd be fine?

Wouldn't they come under animal rights or something then? I'm pretty sure it's not legal to dissect a hippopotamus just for science.

That said, even if they did guarantee aliens human rights, it's not like that means they wouldn't violate them anyway. The Iraqis are supposed to be governed by human rights too, and I could have sworn torture isn't on the "things you're allowed to do" list.

Besides, they'd land in Australia first anyway. We have better beaches and our government is too lazy to dissect them.

You know if they are so advanced in the tecnology area, they might have developed some kind of interstellar google engine and they pick up everything we say about them. Number 2, if they where to land here or on any planet, i dont think they would be afraid, because if their mission is communication and exploring why would they hide?

Off topic: Theres a mini series on scifi channel its call "The 4400"
    THE 4400.
Over the last century, thousands of people have gone missing. Suddenly and inexplicably, 4400 missing people are returned all at once, as they were on the day they vanished. Unclear what this world altering-event means, the government investigates the 4400 to piece together where they've been and why they've been returned. It quickly becomes apparent that their presence will change the human race in ways no one could have ever foreseen.

You know, I think ideas like this are exactly why we need to start pumping money into X-Com. Aliens (besides the ones in Star Trek, but that's sci-fi) are never friendly, even if they appear so at first. They are always going to try to liquify our innards and suck them through our noses if they get the chance. If we had a UFO Defense group like X-Com we could kick their asses before they eat our livers!

Oh, crap, I just realized X-Com takes place in 1999... Maybe this all already happened!

Didn't anybody see The Day The Earth Stood Still? They'll just be positioning interstellar robotic police in orbit around us for our <finger quote> own protection </finger quote>. Any nation's constitution would just be neglected

The only other alternative is to become Pod People.... I'm not too keen on that idea.
