On the sleep note: They have done studies and have found most people are healther mentally and physically if they follow the sun pattern. Basically if you are getting up at noon and going to sleep at 2am then over an extended period of time your health may decline.

Interestingly enough most major commercial disasters occur in the time of 2am to 4am

-You may not have the genetics to get that "6 pack", in fact most people don't
Thats interesting, I've never heard that before, where'd you hear/learn that from?

I would think that since a six pack is simply large abdominal muscles you would have to simply strengthen them as you would any muscle to get them to become defined
if a contradiction was contradicted would that contradition contradict the origional crontradiction?

This isn't true. Well I have been practicing exercises since I know my self as a person and Ive allways been very thin in fact I'm a eternal 4 pack, the upper muscles basicly doesnt show up, even I doing countless abdominals everyday.

nvoigt , following what you said is very difficult for me , especially the part where you said i should eat viggies more. While i can do everything you said the whole week , i wouldn't on week-ends.
That's my point I don't think you need to keep your diet 24/7. That creates stress and lust for that things you will never allow yourself to eat. It's way easier to tell yourself not to eat that pizza on tuesday when you know you will have one on saturday. If you live healthier 24/5 it will go a long way compared to 0/7.

Obviously 24/5 is not as effective as 24/7, probably not even scaling 1:1, but 5 is better than 0 and it will show. You won't get Mr. Universe till friday, but you can start right now and at least not grow a bigger belly until you decide what the right way is

When in doubt, read the FAQ.

I'm really glad this thread came up, I've been looking at doing kickboxing or some form of martial arts to get fit.

I think I'll start doing this, but how does it leave you feeling for the rest of the day? Are you tired because of all the excercise early in the morning?

lol ! thats what i was exactly planning. I won't completley give up the good stuff for a diet , i'll just save them for week-ends . I think this will stop my belly from getting bigger and even shrink it by time (it would take a long time though)

of course none it will be worth it if you pretty much consume everything in sight on weekends that you worked so hard to cut on on weekdays - pretty much cancelling out your diet.

maybe you should consider "cheating" on ONE meal a week (if you really have to).

On the contrary. I find that when I do something active in the morning, it not only wakes me up but gives me more energy for the day.

No, quite the contrary. You'll actually be quite awake, especially if you take a shower afterwards. (And if you don't, you're a pig.)

Also, the exercise will cause your body to produce happiness hormones, so you'll really feel good.

    On average one gram of

    Fat 37 kJ
    Alcohol 29 kJ
    Carbs/prot 16 kJ

    Per minute we burn
    rest 4 kJ
    mod exer 25 kJ

Therefore one hours moderate exercise will 'burn' ~ 40 grams of fat or 1500 kJ.
According to 'some pizza place' in Australia there is 8 - 10g of fat per slice of pizza and ~ 1000 kJ.

So......as long as you understand that

each slice of pizza requires 40 minutes exercise......
each can of Coke requires 10 minutes...

Moderation and understanding what you are eating is the key. Diets don't work, only a change in your lifestyle will have lasting effects.
That change is better done in small increments (to reduce the shock/stress).

Start looking at the nutritional facts on food before you buy them. Some brands vary considerably in energy/fat content.

Drink water 0 kJ or coffee 8 kJ as opposed to Coke (ect) 170 kJ /240g.
Develop a taste for skim milk instead of full cream.
Don't put butter on bread when making sandwiches.
Junk food is a treat (and the work of the DEVIL! )
