You've heard of finals week crunch (or maybe not) but how about ...

    Obtaining degree next semester crunch?

Ok you know in finals week, or the week before finals week, you start stressing out and grinding out every piece of make up work the instructor will let you get away with just to get that next grade up (or even pass in some peoples case).

Well who here has been through the if I play my cards right I can get my degree in the next semester crunch? I've had some crummy advisement councelors in my community college giving me all kinds of crazy/bad/uninformed directions for which course to take to obtain the degree I want--Asociate in Science, transferable to a University for Computer Science batchelors degree. Well I've finally got all teh information strait and I know what classes I need(ed) to get the degree. Fortunately (with no help from the councelors) I've stumbled my way into most of the correct courses I need to obtain the degree.

Well in order to get all the credits I need in the next semester so i'll graduate on time i've been forced into taking 7 classes this semester for a total of 20 credit hours. Heres the grand list
    MAT220 (calc 2)
    PHY116(physics 2)
    COM225(public speaking)
    PHI103(intro to logic)
    PHI243(world religions)
    CSC210(java 2)
    CIS105(intro to webdesign)

So I shoulda registered before christmas break, but I've always been a procrastinator so It turns out I'm registering tommorow (school starts tuesday) and I'm gonna have a seriously jacked up schedual.

Any one else with a horror story?

    *cheer*Yey degree next semester crunch.

My schedule for next semester (starts tuesday):
    Mondays and Wednesdays:
    9:00 am - 9:50 am PHYS 410 Lecture - Mechanics Solids & Fluids
    12:30Pm - 1:55PM MATH 401 - Calc 2
    5:30PM - 6:45PM - CISP 430 Lab - Data Structures
    7:00PM - 8:15PM - CISP 430 Lecture
    8:30PM - 9:45PM - CISP 440 - Discrete Structures
    Tuesdays: Off
    Thursdays:
    11:00 am - 1:50PM PHYS 410 Lab
    Fridays:
    9:00 am - 9:50 am PHYS 410 Lecture
    12:30Pm - 1:55PM MATH 401
    10:00 am - 10:50 am PHYS 410 Lecture

Now I must note: I live too far away to make it worthwhile to go home between classes. Add in an hour travel on MWF to get to school and about 35 minutes to get home and I'm looking at a 13.5 ~ 14 hours

Why are your classes so overly numbered? 401 for calc? 200's is the most common I've seen. Seriously what are classes <100, <200< 300 ?

    Course numbering and credit
    Numbering/Designation
Under the new system which went into effect in 2003, non-transfer and transfer
courses are clearly distinguished by specific number ranges (100-299 for nontransfer
courses; 300-499 for transfer courses). In most departments, courses
    are now numbered in prerequisite order (MATH 25, 32, 100, 120, & 300,
    for example).
    Course numbering
1-99 Basic Skills and Developmental courses are numbered 1-99. They are not
acceptable for associate degree or transfer credit.
    100-299 College-level, non-transfer courses are numbered 100-299. they are
primarily occupational or technical and meet associate degree requirements
such as apprenticeships and fire technology. Some are acceptable for
transfer by four-year institutions offering degrees in similar subject matter.
    Check with your counselor.
300-499 College-level, transfer courses are numbered 300-499. They meet
requirements for associate degrees and are generally accepted for transfer to
four-year institutions to meet major, general education, breadth, or elective
credit requirements. Check with your counselors regarding transferability of
course to the University of California, private colleges, and out-of-state
    universities.
1000-1999 Courses at the 1000 level are typically continuing education courses for
working professionals who need to update their skills for employment or
licensure. The number range 1000-1999 also includes contract education
courses offered by the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center
and other college units. The 1000 number may also be used for tutoring
and other attendance-only courses such as Supervised Tutoring (e.g., HSER
1000 or HCD 1000), and for block scheduling purposes (e.g., Learning
    Community courses).
Basically I'm at a community college so we have a much larger range of courses so our number if different. Hell on the old system Calc 2 was MATH 4B

Jeremy, what degree are you getting? if its something in CS, is the highest math you have to take calc 2??

edit:: nm, its only for an associates.

I'm graduating Fall 2005 so I took as many credit hours (18) as I could this semester, so that hopefully, starting this summer I can get a full time intern/co-op position as next semester I will have a total of only 11 credit hours the least I took in my college career was 15

    anyways this is my schedule:

    M-W-F
    10-10.50: MCS 471 - Number Theory
    12-12.50: CS 440 - Software Engineering
    13-13.50: CS 401 - Algorithms
14-14.50: CS 474 - OOLanguages and environments (Smalltalk and C++)

    T-R
    12.30-13.45: ENGL240 - Literary theory
    14.00-15.15: CS 422 - User Interface design

overall pretty heavy semester, but its been worse before oh, and btw, almost in every class about half of the people are graduate students - there goes the curve

Um axon the two classes you quoted are during the day...
At are school 3 hours of lab / week == 1 hour of lecture / week. The physics class is a 5 unit class so its 4 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab per week. Actually this is one of the lab lighter science courses. My chem class was 6 hours per week of lab

Well an intelligent person would have quoted the actual classes since there is a lot of blah left
If you are refering to the Data Structures and Discrete Structures cources: No they don't. There is only one session per semester. The professor feels its important to schedule them after 5pm so that people who work full time can attend.

an intelligent person would see that your post has been quoted in its entire form before and I didn't want to do it again....hence the "more blah"

Why do I get the horrible feeling this class is entirely based on the consequences of determinism vs. freewill debate?
