I'm glad he didn't actually post the URL of the site. I can handle those types of videos, but if one of our younger posters gets a handle of some of that crap, well, it's suicide material.

No no no, I mean, material that if you saw it would give you reason to want to kill yourself...'suicide material'...ironically I believe that site DOES have stuff of people killing themselves, but that's not what I meant

    edit:
I likely won't stay in rotc anyway

    >>> Some sweet combat video

    An oxymoron surely.

Considering that ROTC is not in the military and considering that there is no marine rotc take a guess.

Note since I see this question coming: Marine officers come from:
Enlisted ranks (Marines have the highest percentage of former enlisted officers),
people who have their degree and join up directly,
the naval academy (something like 10% are allowed to become marine officers),
and some navy rotc (not sure on the %)

How you can call war and combat video footage "sweet" and "awesome" is way beyond me. There is nothing glorious, nothing sweet and nothing awesome about war.

On a side note, that 'anti-armour' weapon (pansarskott) is made in Sweden. I was a little surprised when I saw it, because Swedish weapons manufacturers aren't allowed to exports to nations in war, but if that wasn't from Sweden it was identical to the one used here. Strange.

EDIT: It was from Sweden, USA apparently bought them in April this year.

so... because Bush said the war was over they felt it was ok to sell weapons to the US?

Thantos, maybe you could tell me what your former corps colleagues think about ROTC? I was under the impression from most of the Navy and Air Force personell that I have talked to that ROTC is absolutely nothing at all like the military and that it doesn't even really prepare youfor boot camp. The reason I am wondering is I am actually thinking of maybe doing some of the Military Science courses(for ROTC members), and don't want to waste time with something that is worthless except on resumes.

I also ask Darkness to reveal his experience with college level ROTC.

EDIT: to keep this from hijacking the thread, PM me if you could.

As for the video, what exactly is that black box thing the soldier is looking into around a third of the way through the video? It almost looks like some sort of remote missile control system of some kind, but I may be mistaken.

EDIT: in response to the negative feedback, yes war was in fact declared by congress against Iraq. If it was not, we couldn't of gone over to Iraq because Presidential executive powers do not allow the president to declare war anymore(since the days of LB Johnson actually) without the support of congress.

Well I have never participated in ROTC so I have no idea how well they prepare you. At least for Marine boot camp the biggest challanges were more mental than anything. As such I don't think there is anything that can prepare you for it. I can't see it being that much like the military because its only at the college, its not 24/7, and there is no threat of the UCMJ if you refuse to do something.

I may be mistaken too, but I looked at it for a while and I concluded (for myself at least) that it was a camera modified for combat - I think that's just a face shield surrounding the lens. If it is, I assume he was just watching some previous footage.
