Thread: Prince Valiant

I used to, but I've realized that it's impossible to keep track of, since it's been going for something like 500 years, and I don't know any of the characters. Also, it always seems to end on a cliffhanger, which is remarkable for a comic with no action.

What I want to know is, who reads the "serious" comics, like Rex Morgan MD and Mary Worth and all those crappy ones. I mean, jesus, soap operas are on pretty much constantly; they don't have to take up space that would be better given to Get Fuzzy or another copy of Get Fuzzy.

what ever happened to the tv show, i use to get drunk and watch that, i guess thats why i cant remember why it's not on anymore

I think it ran for like 2 seasons and was canned. The episodes are still on Comedy Central from time to time.

Can't forget Foxtrot.

Comics that need to be put out of their misery because they stopped being funny a LONG time ago (if they ever were to begin with!):

Garfield, Beetle Bailey, Cathy, Wizard of Id, Dennis the Menace, Family Circle, For Better or Worse

Garfield is still a funny classic cartoon
Beetle Bailey is pretty dang good and surprisingly close to reality sometimes
Cathy - I'll give you this one
Wizard of Id is again a classic one that is humorous most of the time
Deenis - meh
Family Circle was never suppose to be funny. It is suppose to be wholesome
For Better or Worse is again another comic that isn't suppose to be funny. Its suppose to be wholesome and provide a way for you to connect with the characters (and the author's) life.

Some of my favorites (no particular order):
Get Fuzzy: not always funny and sometimes goes over the dumb edge but 99% of the time is good for a chuckle.
Mutts: That cat is great
Baby Blues: God I hope I never actually get like them but its funny.
Rose is Rose: A really cute comic that is fun to read and makes the day a little lighter sometimes.
Hagar the Horrible: A viking comic, whats not to love.
Fox Trot: No need to explain
Dilbert: No need to explain
Bizaaro: A decent replacement to Far Side
Non Sequitur: More often then not its good for an unexpected joke.

What gets me is Doonesbury and The Boondocks being in with the comics instead of the political page. I read them both everyday and enjoy them even if they are usally going against my political views.

Dilbert is the only thing that keeps me from going insane at work.

I did read Prince Valiant. As Comic books. I still have them, some 60 comics and it's not complete. Great stuff. I still read them once in a while when I'm sick. Why ? It's easy stuff. It's pictures mostly and I already know the story by heart. The best thing ever for those days that you feel like I am sillyI am sillyI am sillyI am silly and reading a book or starring at a screen is just unbearable.

My paper moved Doonesbury to the Opinion page a while ago, and added another conservative comic to go along with it (can't really think of it's name right now). I think it makes more sense that way, really. The other comic can be funny sometimes, but I think it goes far too often for the "lol liberals r radical!" punch line.
