    anyone read "GNU Emacs" before ?

    hi guys~

    i'm learning C++ with emacs but i do not know much on emacs so i want to pick some books to help me, someone suggests GNU Emacs published by O'Reilly, so i want some comments from anyone who read it through before, is it good book, or say good enough for telling us everything about emacs intergrated with C++ ? I'd appreciate any response, thanx.

    because emacs is a great editor.

    Dont by a book, open emacs,
    click: Help -> Emacs Tutorial
    (or press C-x h)

    have a read through that and you'll know enough to get started.

    that isn't the emacs logo but the standard gnu ox logo. As far as buying a book on emacs, I would just go with an open source book(this isn't the same book though) A tutorial
    Oh, and I have to push vim also

    If it is this book you are referring to, it is a good intro to the basic usage of emacs. It covers a variety of subjects, including some of the more obscure aspects of the editor (try M-x doctor, or M-x yow [for a quote from Zippy the pinhead], of M-x psychoanalyze-pinhead [this pipes Zippy the Pinhead's quotes into the doctor program - kind of funny]) I will say that it covers the C major mode, but the coverage is not extensive. Personally I would not buy the book again - there are lots of references on the net that have good info.

    Go with emacs... Great operating system... Just needs a text editor.
    Anyways, yes, I would simply use online tutorials. The ones that are built in are pretty good, and there are plenty of others online.

    This is kind of funny too - its about ed, not emacs, but the dude makes a joke about the size of emacs a little bit down from the top.
