Does anyone here have either DirectV, Tivo or both? We're about sick of our local cable company (Cartoon Network NEVER comes in clearly; must have Futurama!)
If I go to DirectV, I figured I'd drop the extra $5 a month to get the Tivo recorder / service. What do you guys think?

DirectTV has pretty much all the same features as TiVo. Actually I have no idea what TiVo has, but DirecTv has all that ability to pause live tv and record your favorite shows, etc... I wasn't impressed with their service at all at first, but they seem to have improved a lot in the past few years.

That's what I was worried about. I live in south Louisiana. The we get our share of rain, but I didn't realize a cloudy sky could block the signal. I assumed it was strong enough to penetrate through clouds.Originally Posted by EvBladeRunnervE

well with normal rain nothing should be affected if the dish is alligned properly.... Only a very heavy downpour will cause interruption... may be for a few minutes when its heavy(really heavy).. do nothing to worry...
Back in those days of analogue receivers no amount of rain would completely cut you off from the service...(the max that would happen was loose clarity and get lot of grains)..
I have the tivo that is built for Direc tv. I love it, tivo that is. Direc tv has been ok we haven't had many problems. I don't have that many storms were I am at, but the times we have had rainy weather it has posed no problems

thats mostly not true. I live in Chicago, known for its bad weather, and the reception gets screwy when a thunderstorm is coming...other then that it is very good. Even in a thunderstorm the picture doesn't disappear, only the feed is kind-a late and sometimes skips a few seconds.
just like with DSL vs. Cable, there are different pros and cons when picking directTV over cable. But my biggest reason is that directTV is so much cheaper than comcast...at least in my area.
