And who said anything about these people being computer geniuses? All it takes is for one to have a slight bit of talent and the desire to read through all of the developer reference manuals, and understand assembly like alot of the senior people here understand C. It basically doesnt take a genius to do something, just takes a person with hard work ,dedication, and some talent; Something the US hasn't seen from most of its HS/College graduates in a while.
You mean the same fortune 500 companies that fall victem and suffer losses due to the virus programs written by the script kiddies? Guess they arent so good, afterall.

Either way they ........ me off and ruin my intenet experience. I learned C/C++ and asm because I wanted to create games. Now I must learn all about the registry and winsock in order to protect my system from morons. So that is my next area of focus because I'm tired of home pages getting reset and moreso I'm tired of the commercial programs failure to notify me of important problems and yet always notifying me of the unimportant ones.
I'm not going to become a hacker because I find no joy in it. Games are my passion. This is all about protection. If I know the exploits then I can catch them myself and correct them on other people's systems. It's unfortunate that I must research into this area when I'm not interested in it at all, but I'm really tired of it.
So my first book is going to be all about the Windows registry, then winsock, then well...wherever it takes me.
the problem isnt that they aren't good, it is that businesses in the Forbes 500 still run windows, and quite frankly no one can protect windows. Anyway, who said those who make the viruses that get past these analysts are script kiddies, apparently someone needs to use stereotypes to up self-esteem because they couldn't do it themselves(not saying that you are, but most stereotypes are out of jealousy, or so the psychology books I have read say).Guess they arent so good, afterall.
P.S. I am not saying I could write these programs either, but you need to quit calling all the developers "script kiddies" because none of the actually destructive worms were made by "script kiddies".

Astalavista has their stupid bloody 'Diaries' everywhere and they suck!
BTW the reason I go onto Astalavista is to find cool programs and security articles. (Not Viruses, the harmless kind. eg. Encrypters)

Its called PocoMail. It's cool because it minimizes to the background. I love it!

I do agree that stereotypical hackers really are lame. Most of the hackers worth their salt don't put out silly viruses like Slammer but write up the hacks that remove copy protections in computer software a couple weeks before they are released on the street, and distribute over kazaa or on 1 dollar CDs. I dont think a script kiddie ever once wrote a security hack for a piece of software(I might be wrong however, as software like SoftICE makes it relatively easy to determine when a register is holding the CD key, so you can search for cmp and other instructions).

some viruses are simple as anything though just made in vbscript through microsoft word, all people have to do is go find the ten maybe fifteen lines of code and put their name on it and distribute it.
