Thread: Gas dropping?

My g/f was on the way to work and drove through a town, and noticed that the gas was at what it always was, $2.14. On the way back home after work in the same day, there was a sign up front of the gas station, "This business has been convicted of a crime." Gas is now $2.03 at that gas station.

She said that people work said the upping on the gas wasn't sent through the proper people and they were raising the price too much, and that other gas stations might just follow.

We pay Rs.40 (nearly a $) per LITRE of petrol here in India. So, feel miserably happy that you are enjoying the lowest prices...

This week I paid 9.14 Kroner for a litre. It has, however, dropped a little over recent weeks, a trend that I hope will continue.

Since a US gallon is roughly 4 litres, we are paying roughly $6 per gallon. (4 litres = 1.06 USG)

Petrol in the US has always struck me as virtually free.

We pay 1.25€ per liter, which after some rounding up and down equals 5$ per gallon. Petrol is cheap in the states.

Yes, a big guzzling SUV does use more then an economical European car doesn't it! American cars tend to have large thirsty engines.

At the place I was before, I was driving further then you each way. I suspect that there are people in Europe that drive more, and others that drive less, I would guess the same is true in the US. What you'd need is the average number of miles driven, I don't know where to get a reasonable unbiased answer to that. Europe as a whole is larger than the US, so there are plenty of long journies around, but I would think it is fair to say people do drive less frequently the many hundreds of miles trips - they tend to fly. Maybe one or two trips a year down to the Med.

I think there is also a chicken and egg situation here, people tend not to drive vast journies because petrol is expensive. If it were cheap, more people would drive bigger less fuel efficient cars longer distances.

The perception from abroad is that in the US, cars are cheap petrol is cheap, and nobody cares about the emissions, (Kyoto etc.).

Here in Canada, regular gas costs about 85c per litre, so that would be about $2.39US per gallon.

My uncle in Belgium owns a toyota Prius - it gets about 53 freagin miles per gallon!! I was driving the car for a while, and I told him I'll fill it up when it will run low...a full tank cost me 75 USD!!!!!!!!!!!

I calculate my mpgs for my car. I do some highway driving but most of it is within my municipality. Driving a '96 Corrola, I average about 38 mpg. The new '04 Corrola my parents drive (sports version btw ) does the same too and its faster.

I know my friends have hulking SUVs and they gate pumping gas into it. Currently, I probably spend $18 at the pump for a full-tank, they spend around $40. Sucks for them haha! Just get a car, they're cooler, faster, and cheaper.

I remember the time when gas used to be $1.14 per gallon here. Isn't that awesome! Then again, I wasn't driving back then.

Driving around is so much fun. Bored? Get out in the car, drive around and maybe you'll see someone and then do stuff. You probably spent $2 or $3 a day (tops) and you spend hours blasting music, hanging out, going to the mall, etc. Much cheaper than other activities.

There is a lot to be said for these hybrid cars. At the moment, they are very expensive in Denmark because some stupid idiot who simply didn't understand was given the job of rating them, he goofed and placed them in a luxury bracket. That will change.

I think women buy those big 'cars' because they feel safer in them, despite the figures which show they are, if anything more dangerous then regular cars.
