    Gas dropping?

My g/f was on the way to work and drove through a town, and noticed that the gas was at what it always was, $2.14. On the way back home after work in the same day, there was a sign up front of the gas station, "This business has been convicted of a crime." Gas is now $2.03 at that gas station.

She said that people work said the upping on the gas wasn't sent through the proper people and they were raising the price too much, and that other gas stations might just follow.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

We pay Rs.40 (nearly a $) per LITRE of petrol here in India. So, feel miserably happy that you are enjoying the lowest prices...

This week I paid 9.14 Kroner for a litre. It has, however, dropped a little over recent weeks, a trend that I hope will continue.

9.14 DKK Denmark Kroner = 1.51676 USD United States Dollars

Since a US gallon is roughly 4 litres, we are paying roughly $6 per gallon. (4 litres = 1.06 USG)

Petrol in the US has always struck me as virtually free.

We pay 1.25€ per liter, which after some rounding up and down equals 5$ per gallon. Petrol is cheap in the states.

Ok, but for all those people that don't live in the states, how much driving do you do? I drive 35 miles one way to work. And I'm only getting about 26 mpg. And this weekend, I'm driving out to see my wife's parents (350 miles one way).

I guess the point I'm driving at is that things are further apart here and we do more driving. Maybe I'm all wrong, but please set me straight. I'd say we make up for the price difference in the volume we use.

Yes, a big guzzling SUV does use more then an economical European car doesn't it! American cars tend to have large thirsty engines.

At the place I was before, I was driving further then you each way. I suspect that there are people in Europe that drive more, and others that drive less, I would guess the same is true in the US. What you'd need is the average number of miles driven, I don't know where to get a reasonable unbiased answer to that. Europe as a whole is larger than the US, so there are plenty of long journies around, but I would think it is fair to say people do drive less frequently the many hundreds of miles trips - they tend to fly. Maybe one or two trips a year down to the Med.

I think there is also a chicken and egg situation here, people tend not to drive vast journies because petrol is expensive. If it were cheap, more people would drive bigger less fuel efficient cars longer distances.

The perception from abroad is that in the US, cars are cheap petrol is cheap, and nobody cares about the emissions, (Kyoto etc.).

Here in Canada, regular gas costs about 85c per litre, so that would be about $2.39US per gallon.

I calculate my mpgs for my car. I do some highway driving but most of it is within my municipality. Driving a '96 Corrola, I average about 38 mpg. The new '04 Corrola my parents drive (sports version btw ) does the same too and its faster.

I know my friends have hulking SUVs and they gate pumping gas into it. Currently, I probably spend $18 at the pump for a full-tank, they spend around $40. Sucks for them haha! Just get a car, they're cooler, faster, and cheaper.

I remember the time when gas used to be $1.14 per gallon here. Isn't that awesome! Then again, I wasn't driving back then.

Driving around is so much fun. Bored? Get out in the car, drive around and maybe you'll see someone and then do stuff. You probably spent $2 or $3 a day (tops) and you spend hours blasting music, hanging out, going to the mall, etc. Much cheaper than other activities.

After seeing the European prices on gas, it is no wonder Europeans are making large strides towards fuel efficient cars, while americans continute to use big gas guzzling SUVs(I need to check, but the funny thing is that single females buy the most SUVs, when one would expect men and people with families to be the top spenders).

I havent seen gas drop where I am, still approaching 2 dollars a gallon(was ~1.86 USD a gallon a couple of days ago).

    >>> Toyota Prius

There is a lot to be said for these hybrid cars. At the moment, they are very expensive in Denmark because some stupid idiot who simply didn't understand was given the job of rating them, he goofed and placed them in a luxury bracket. That will change.

I think women buy those big 'cars' because they feel safer in them, despite the figures which show they are, if anything more dangerous then regular cars.

exactly, most figures I have seen have shown:
    1) SUVs are more prone to rollovers in turns exceeding 35mph
    2) you are more likely to kill the other party in an accident if you drive an SUV and they have a car
    3) you spend far more than what you should in gas, because for example, my parents ford F150 only gets 15-17 mpg.

and from what I have seen in life:

    1) people who drive SUVs tend to have a fake sense of security, and tend to drive more reckless than those in cars.

yeah, I heard about that, and supposedly it is the same way in quite a few other European countries due to ignorant raters. I personally think they should subsidize purchase of hybrid/(high fuel economy) cars.
