Yeah, Ev, didn't you read the board rules?

Rule # 1. People under the age of 25, African Americans, Jewish people and women are not allowed to express their opinions on cboard.

Or even the constitution of the US?

Amendment # 18. The right of free speech is revoked to all those under the age of 30(unless they agree with the popular opinion).

while I don't think Ev's age excludes someone from the right to speak, it is pretty clear when you look out across society that you can statistically tell a good deal about someone's politics by the amount of time they have spent on earth.

Now, I DO wish I wasn't 30! And thanks a lot for pointing that out.

That tells you little about an individual.

I'm all for young adults like myself keeping a firm grasp on our freedom of speech, but I'm also totally in favor of Ev shutting the hell up. That's not because of his his age -- he's one year younger than I -- it has to do with his maturity. It seems to me that he takes the most simplistic view of everything and he thinks he knows something about government and politics because he's taken a course in high school on it.

Now, if you lived through Reagan's presidency and thought it was the best eight years America ever experienced, good for you. Please keep in mind, however, that there are other adults who lived through that time who've nothing nice to say about it.

If, however, you are a high school student who knows nothing more of the man and his legacy beside what your textbook tells you, perhaps you'd do well to keep your opinions to yourself and listen to people much older and wiser than you, on this messageboard, in person and in books.

Personally, I think Reagan was at the very least optimistic and sincere. Although I don't agree with all of his methods of accomplishing his goals, I think him and me share a very similar vision of America. And I think that really counts for something.

Oh, and after a man's death is no time to attack him. That's shameless.

Sorry, I was just curious to see whom I was talking to...to be fair, you did provide the information to the public by putting it into your personal information. I do not personally feel comfortable putting that data about myself for everyone else to see, but let's just say that I graduated college before most of you were born. I agree with the whole freedom of speech schpeel, but, look at how young EvBladeRunner is (born in 1987), and he talks about things he wasn't even alive to witness. There's a difference between freedom of speech, and not having a clue about what you are talking about. I was irked because he was arguing against you, FillYourBrain, when you are substantially older than he is.

very good. That would explain my use of the word statistically. Perhaps I could have said "guess" instead of "tell". Not the end of the world. Don't care.

erm.... sorry, but most of my info comes from the publically available FBI/CIA files on the Iran-Contra Scandal, as well as analyst sites, encyclopedias, journals, etc. that use them(thank Allah for the Freedom of Information act). In fact, none of it at all comes from high school textbooks on the matter. My view is somewhat simplistic, I will admit that, since IMO, anyone that supports a terrorist is a terrorist and shouldnt be given the time of day even if he was a president(seems I am more anti-terrorism than any of you guys except the Europeans on the board).

as I have said before, that is like me not being allowed to say Hitler supported the extermination of Jews, but led the Germans up from depression into a booming war economy . . . simply because I wasn't alive/there does not make my points(which are based off of factual evidence, except for the voodoo-economics stuff which is alot of theory and neither side really explains it all) invalid.

Oh, and after a man's death is no time to attack him. That's shameless.
why? I mean, are you saying if we heard Usama Bin-Ladin died that I shouldn't point out what he did wrong in life, even though a group of people in the middle east love and adore him would attack me for it?

A person's death is a time to remember all that a person did, not just the good. We can argue about the economics and personal convictions of the man, but the one thing that noone can deny is that he was deeply involved in the Iran-Contra affair and continued spending his own money on terrorists after the US cut off funding.

And if somebody happens to visit these boards that was alive during that time, however improbable that may be, you better smile, listen intently, and ask questions when he/she is done speaking, and not formulate your own opinions off of things you have read on the internet.

    edit.
and if you DO formulate your own opinions off of things you have read on the internet, which is what will happen, don't be rude by pretending you know more.

Regan could deliver a line. One of the best raconteur’s I have heard. He coined the hrase 'evil empire' (when speaking about the USSR/communism) that GWB likes so much.

Pity he was a racist (look at the place he started his campaign for pres).

Terrible he traded arms for drugs to overthrow a democratically elected government.

Suprisingly his MAD (mutually assured destruction) tactic in the cold war paid off, but that was also due to the statemanship of others (ie Gorbachev)

Either way, for the INF treaty alone Reagan should be remembered as one of the greats.

"It seemed that the most important thing about Reagan was his anti-Communism and his reputation as a hawk who saw the Soviet Union as an "evil empire."

Yet his second term emphasized a different set of goals. I think he understood that it is the peacemakers, above all, who earn a place in history. "

    ....

"I think that the main lesson of those years is the need for dialogue, which must not be broken off whatever the challenges and complications we have to face. "

    M Gorbachev

    Please take note GWB.

    >>I think that the smartest thing people your age can do is just assume that elders know more.

    No..........

    question all your elders say,
filter it through your own experience / moral code,
    then reach your own conclusion.

Just be part of the process not part of the problem (apathy).
Your opinion is valid as long as you have a basis for it that you can support and are willing to change that opinion in the face of new information.

I would truly be interested in what people had to say if they brought factual evidence to the table, so far I am the only one to have done so, so I can presume that I am in fact correct as so far as my label of Reagan as a terrorist.

Just because someone lived during a time doesnt mean that they weren't deluded into believing falsehoods, or that they plain dont know what in the heck they are talking about, which is why I trust evidence, which unless contested, can be presumed as factual evidence and be trusted, unlike an individual.

I think you guys should lay off of Ev. Just look back @ your posts; you sound like those people that constantly throw around that they are older and therefore are better and totally own you. I hate people like that. I'm not saying I necessarily hate YOU, I'm saying I hate the way you're acting.

Ev has brought some facts to this, and he has shared his opinions. That's it. Instead of trying to force him to shed all of his opinions, just tell him "I think this, although what you say may be true". [sarcasm]Part of growing up is accepting others beliefs[/sarcasm]

I don't want to hear anymore age crap every again. I hate how we live in an age-based society. The only thing that really matters is how old you are, a lot of times actual knowledge is worthless.
