I don't know how to put this without sounding incredibly dumb, but I have a question.
We have to set a Set of questions for a programming contest, and besides the standard set of esoteric code on quines and obscure language features, I would like to introduce some thing of use in the real world. And I suppose some of you have had professional programming experience.
Anyway, my question is, as programmers what sorts of challenges have you faced during work? (Excluding making the damn printers work :P) What kinds of problems do you come up against that you are forced to solve on the spot?
Any thoughts appreciated. (I hope I made myself clear enough)
