    Konqueror web browser!

Well I finally got around to installing Mandrake 9.1. I fired up the the Konqueror browser, and I am impressed it is suprisingly fast! I don't remember ever hearing that the Konquerer was exceptionally fast, but I would bet it is faster than IE 6.

The last time I tried Linux was when Mandrake 8.2 was released. I think I'll load Slackware 9 next and see how I like it although if I remember correctly it is not as user friendly. Oh well only one way to find out!

If you like that go give Firebird a try.

    http://www.mozilla.org/

Before I switched I was using Opera. When I switched I found Opera to be the only non-Free program I just had to have. After reading Sam Williams' biography of Richard Stallman I decided to go ditch Opera and use a Free browser.

When I was using windows I tried Mozilla and was not impressed. Too bloated, too slow, etc. Sweet Jesus have they come a long way. Plus you can add a ton of plugins so you have all the features you want. Featurewise, I have my copy of Firebird beating Opera hands down, and I have zero features installed that I don't want. Fast, powerful, standards complient. Plus, once you get used to tabbed browsing you won't ever go back.

I tried mozilla recently and the tabbed browser was great. I had a problem with it and I cant remember how it occured but it quit functioning correctly and wouldn't let me reinstall it.

I just finished reinstalling all my os'es and everything runs so fast and smooth right now maybe I'll give Mozilla another try! I think I'll Ghost my current install first though.

Hopefully 0.8 will be out soon.

Firebird is pretty cool, but it still feels bloated. It takes far too long to launch and is quite a memory hog. My linux system only has 64MB of RAM and a p3 600, so Opera is the fastest and least-bloated that I've tried yet.

I was never really much impressed with Konquerer, though.

Well, firebird ain't microsoft. I've used all these (excluding Konqueror) and I don't have a true favorite. There are pros and cons to all.
Do not make direct eye contact with me.

thunderbird is a mail client better than Outlook Express.

Firebird is the smaller project of Mozilla.

Mozilla is www.mozilla.org 's primary browser project, its quite large and is Netscape based as far as browsing goes. (as in nothing thats IE only works)

Whats the ........ off? #1. if a page is IE only, it wont work properly on Mozilla, Firebird, Opera, Netscape, etc etc.
#2. It could be Netscape friendly but JScript will ruin the page if the user is not fluent in multi-browser coding. (like me -_-')
#3. more than 70% of users use a IE based browser. So 70% of the webpages in the work id IE based for sure, and Netscape based browsers are left in the dist with the other 30% (in which those are mostly government and provincial websites that ive found)

The only problem I have with Firebird is how long it takes to start. I wish you could load it into the background like Windows does with Mozilla so that startup is faster.

I was not impressed with Konqueror, neither was I with much of KDE's software. Of course, I'm not really saying that Epiphany is that great either. I usually just open Firebird in its own workspace and never close it, so I don't have to wait for it to restart. I got 512 megs of RAM, so it's not too big of an issue for me to leave unused programs open.
