    which Portable mp3 player?

Hi everybody and a happy new year!

I am considering to buy a portable mp3 player (but do not prefer CD players that support mp3 format). I've never listened to songs on a portable mp3 player and so none of my friends. That's why I don't have a clue about how good the sound quality is on a portable mp3 player. I am asking this because I've seen the quality differs when mp3 format songs are played on different computers depending on the sound card and speakers.

I was wondering if any of you guys can help me on this. Thank you.

I used to have an mp3 player: it was THE CHEAPEST possible one in Australia; Creative's cheapest one and the sound was very decent, so it wouldnt really matter which one you got IMO. Also, the quality of the sound can also depend on what headphones you're using.

I bought my fiance a Nike PSA 128mb (kinda expensive, but the sound quality is unmatched IMO).

Hmm... the cheapest mp3 player I'm using is the one that I programmed. You people bought them? How odd. Weird.

I use Nomad MuVo NX 256 MB with built-in microphone (extra snooze in class.)

    Tag: ~$130 for 128MB, ~$180 for 256MB.

We aren't talking about things like WinAmp, XMMS, etc, but actual hardware MP3 players, like the iPod.

Oh, and by the way, I have a MPIO FL100 128MB.
