Now that I actually think about what I said, I think that inbreeding produces genetic defects or something like that...Haven't studied much in the way of inheritance but at least I believe you would have a much larger chance of passing genetic disorders if you married a sibling...

I thought marriage was an expression of mutual love.

I don’t think the government (or anyone else) should legislate/decide who is allowed to be in love (or who’s love is valid).

People can disagree about how to live and get along just fine. It's called 'tolerance' or 'diversity' or 'the open society'.
Explain to me why then that France and germany are still havens to a large anti-semitic population, and England has a higher murder rate than the US. I thought these were tolerant countries?

Where did you get your stats?

Edit: Found some support from your England vs. US murder figure.

Though i don't see what your point is, are you trying to claim that tolerance is fundamentally impossible?

Im trying to claim that by nature human beings have predgidous(sp?), and that there will always be a group, a large on in this case we're talking about, that will not be tolerant and will be violent about it(gay bashers,etc.). Therefore, dont expect everyone to be tolerant and lead a utopian lifestyle, but just merely see what they are: poor , indoctrinated fools who should be pitied.

    .......

given that there are people who are tolerant, groups of people who are tolerant, it seems reasonable to suppose that tolerance is possible.

Prejudices have to come from somewhere, education can remove them (atleast on a societal level).

I mean, to a certain level a agree with you in that, we should labour not to define ourselves by our differences but rather by our similarities: I'm not English, i'm not caucasian, i'm not heterosexual, i'm not middle class, i defy those groupings: i'm human. (- ok so its easy to say that, but in reality i am partially bound to some groupings, i am not totally immune to social influence, but social influences can change, and i don't have to let social bindings determine what i think or what i do)

We CAN tolerate differences, and what "group" we consider ourselves part of is not intrinsic to geography, physiology or anything else, its an arbitrary definition that can be changed.

    I couldn't resist...

    Possible? Sure. Gonna happen? Never.

    >>Prejudices have to come from somewhere, education can remove them (atleast on a societal level).

And I guess you think everyone has access to this education?

You live in a pipe dream. I bet you're a member of PETA.

Errr... when did he ever say that? The point is that it should be our goal TO educate everyone so that we get rid of prejudices.

I'm not English, i'm not caucasian, i'm not heterosexual, i'm not middle class,
God damn you are describing me. Yes, I am all you describe-so are you.

    Except I AM English.

The rest I dont give a stuff about. Clyde you are English-be proud of what you have been given.

    Oh-bit of a side track..hmmm.

but in reality i am partially bound to some groupings
...and you are not happy to be bound to the group called 'English'?

and i don't have to let social bindings determine what i think or what i do
No, you can go and stuff what our ENGLISH forefathers fought for and did for us. Keeps you out of the 'English' group nicely. Sounds to me you have many problems. Look after Palestinians and homosexuals (and the next best bandwagon to jump on), but stuff the glorious history of my ancestors).

Rant rant. All I see is people putting in crap-oh yes I agree everybody is equal - bollocks! People should be equal but they aint, and nobody especially Clyde is gonna change it. Clyde I suppose your also a vegan who stays in tents on your holidays/up trees protesting.

Face it being 'PC' is just a fantasy. Nobody really gives a stuff.

Finally Ken-I see your points are all valid-my beef aint with you, or any other person of whatever sexual persuasion-its just with people who arent, 'sticking up' for something that should have no influence on their life.

    Bollocks to them all. (heh)

This kind of topic only makes people dig their heels into the ground more. I've always believed talking never solves anything, just look at the UN.

The US government is supposedly secular, and there are no good, secular reasons for why two people of the same sex should not marry.

And as for the idea that it is in "tradition" for marriage to be male+female exclusively... well, traditions evolve. Look at women, they have much "tradition" that we have evolved beyond today. Of course, there are those who believe that is wrong too "It is traditional for women to take care of their men, and raise children. That's just the way it is."

Homosexual love is different. But not any less of a real emotion than heterosexual love... some gay friends of mine feel that homosexuals should not have the same marriage rights as heterosexuals because they believe heterosexual marriage is cheapened in this modern day anyway. With divorce rates as high as they are, they would rather not be part of something they don't understand. Yes, so some gay people are for a separate legal bonding (that's the key issue though, right? Legality?), for the reason that they want legal recognition of their homosexual relationship without being tainted by heterosexual marriage.

God forbid the government actually be secular. (no pun intended)

OMG so I was went to McDonald's yesterday to get some food. I'm waiting in line and this old black bum walks in screaming $$$$.

    [black-tongue]
'Hell no, these nice ladys [who were black] are just doin' what they gotta do and you cracker ass white boys [there were some white kids in front of me] gotta be here"
    [/black-tongue]

The man leaves for a sec and comes back in...

    [black-tongue]
"If I had my mac-9 you'd all be dead"
    [/black-tongue]

The man stands behind me in line, asking how I got ahead of him in line.

    [black-tongue]
"I wish I brought my razor"
    [/black-tongue]

The founders of the US based the structure of the government from their life-styles.

    I don't care about homo-sex/homo-marriage

They should STFU about the benefits and $$$$ that the government set up though. They don't wanna respect our history, kiss my ass. Just like foreigners need to respect out laws.

Marriage is pointless. I think it should be taken out of the government. But for now, gays should have the same rights as straights.

What makes me mad is comments like:
Rather, gay and lesbian marriages operate more along the lines of lust, never love
You probably watch pornos and think that's all there is to the gay lifestyle. That's because the first thing people think about when they think of gays or lesbians is sex. You are sick, sick, people to think that homosexual people are not capable of love. I have known so many gay and lesbian people, and they experience the same things straights do. I'm straight, but I believe that gays should not be discriminated against and insulted by everyone, including the government itself.

What? So you're all for only a portion of the population getting equal benefits?

Also, you seem like the type of person who thinks all laws are good. I think you're right. We should probably bring back the 18th amendment and Jim Crow laws, too.
