These are some of my favorites....
I like almost every book of Stephen King or Tom Clancy.
The one book that really surprised me was Death du jour
by Kathy Reichs. I was looking for new books to read on my
daily one hour commute to work by subway. I already read
all the books I liked, King's, Clancy's, any Star Wars novels,
no new one's were out. So out of curiosity, and because I
just had to buy a book for the next day if I didn't want
to be bored for two hours ( to work and back ), I bought
the #1 from the bestselling list. And boy what a book. It's
a real page turner. She wrote two sequels, Deja Dead
and Deadly Decisions. Great stuff, though not neccessarily
my normal reading experience.

I've read all of John Wyndams books. Of the more recent books I have read, I would ecomend "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden, and "Wild Swans" by Jung Chang.

It's hard to explain. It's basically about a community of people that don't fight, do bad things, have emotions, etc. They're like robots almost, but they're human. Eveyone in the community has a job and the book is about the job of the Giver. He's the only one in the community that can feel emotion. He keeps the memories and emotions of the past so the rest of the community doesn't have to mess with them.
It's a very screwed up book. It's awesome though.
