    Do you have an accent?

    Everyone has an accent, but most people hear theirs all the time and think it's normal. So the question is do you think you have an accent? If you think you do, what pecularities are there to it?

    The language is spoken pretty clearly where I live, although some people have a habit of not pronouncing the 'g' on the end of a -ing word clearly. Many people, like, always say like in, like, all the wrong places.

    I think the silent g is a universally american thing.

    I don't think I talk with an accent, although I slur my words unusually frequently... western massachusetts doesn't have that eastern 'joe quimby/ted kennedy' accent that eastern massachusetts has. We sound like hicks.

    You have really answered your own question...

    >>> Everyone has an accent

    ... of course everyone has an accent. The way you speak is ingrained into you as you develop, where you develop. Unless you are speaking with someone from the immediate locality, you will notice subtle, and increasingly with distance, less subtle variation.

    I'ts funny, I never thought I had an accent, but now-a-day's I hear long island has one of the strongest accents. I think its with g's also... but if I have an accent it sure is warping... sometimes I pronounce words like a canadian, sometimes like a long islander, I've even heard that I have an English(as in British) accent... weird huh?

    edit: with the g's I meant that long islanders over-pronounce them.

    I have a southern canadian accent. It's weird to hear but the chicks dig it.

    the silent g (ala katie Kourik (sp?)) REALLY gets on my nerves!

    Everyone has an accent it's only the small minded people that think they don't.

    Incase you were dropped on your head as a child, I have an Australian accent. And of course, the 'chicks' dig that too.

    Well, I was born in Canada so I naturally have that accent. But I have lived in Georgia my entire life and I have the southern accent.

    I wanted a really cool accent like Sean Connery, but it was too expensive to buy for everyday speech. I only use it at parties, now.
