.... please tell me that article is in jest, and I simply don't get the joke.

Imagine having to live next door to the french.
Can someone explain to me why many Americans are anti-France? Is it just because of the Iraq debacle or does predate that?

I mean in England the French are the but of a few jokes in the same way as the Irish and the Scotish are, though its all in jest. Some of people here seem to really dislike the French - AN ENTIRE NATION...... why?

it's backlash for their attitude toward us. Yes that precedes the Iraq thing. You haven't noticed a french attitude problem?

Yes that precedes the Iraq thing.
    When did it start?

You haven't noticed a french attitude problem?
Nope, i've spent about.... a year i think, in total that is (family holidays were always in France), and i've never noticed anything wrong with the French.

I think many Americans incorrectly think that the French are all snobs who hate everything American, and thus feel they need to return the favor.

I'm with you Clyde, I've been to France a couple of times and have never seen anything wrong and the common person seemed to carry no grudge or bad thoughts towards Americans.

PJYelton, has hit the main point. Although I'd leave off "incorrectly" as that is an opinion. But essentially, he answered your question Clyde

I hate the French because Zakk said he spent like 2 whole weeks there and he didn't like it. Plus, they're pinko Nazi commie babyeaters who didn't support our illustrious president's god-given right to impose our rules on whoever we want based on false pretenses. And their wimmens don't shave.

    I'm going to lunch.

I see, that article article on Fox news though, its.... well beyond words. That kind xenophobic hatred being sprayed into the general populace is a really really bad thing, IMO, it just encourages more anger, and you can bet there is a French equivalent (though i suspect it may not be quite as powerfull as Fox) slating the Americans off.

And what's the end result? Lots of people end up disliking each other.... for no reason at all. Poltical disharmony, further alienation of Europe and the US. No one gains from any of this stuff. Seems so pointless.

No one gains, eh? Fox News and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, stand to gain by fanning the political flames. Fox News appeals to, and in some aspects helps form, a conservative base who feel that the rest of the media has a strong liberal bias. If Murdoch can rally his Fox fans to vote for his ideological friends, he might get laws more favorable to his business (look at the FCC ruling). It sounds sinister, but some people will even start wars just for money (not pointing fingers ). This sensationalist article continues a conservative tradition of labeling foreigners as bad and then labeling their opposition at home as too similar in opinion to these foreigners to be trustable, "patriotic" Americans. It's infuriating but effective unfortunately.

Yea, i suppose a few select people do gain, at the expense of everyone else.

    Damnit, damnit, damnit.

Your answer is in the 3rd and 4th words.

I'm back from lunch. It was tasty. A new Mexican restaurant opened around here. I got a chimichanga, a bunch of ships, salsa, and a coke for $7. Not bad. Plus, the hostess was hot.
