    >> Superchargers are much better than turbos

matter of opinion. a turbo is way more efficient. why use power your engine creates to try to get more power (ie. belt driven superchargers) a turbo is using forces that need to be created anyway (exhaust)

But what happens when there is no exhaust pressure? All efficiency is lost.

But it is a matter of opinion. Most people I talk to prefer superchargers over turbos. Turbos have an inherent risk with them (as do superchargers) and they are not as reliable due to the immense forces they endure - IMO.

it is a matter of opinion, and it kindof depends what's your flavor and what kind of car you have.

This got linked from nopistons.com, I'm a member over there and this is my first post here.

your statement is wrong, if any engine could reliably spin @ 30,000 rpms efficiently there would certainly be a benefit: horsepower.

I personally think the guy with the FD who started this thread is full of $$$$, but you're full of $$$$ too.

Modern crotch rockets rev beyond 12,000 RPM, the new R6 has a 18,000 RPM tach with a 15,500 redline. F1 motors approach 20,000 RPM, and thats with reciprocating piston 4 cycle engines.

Your post regarding the body twisting or whatever is ridiculous, the main concern with our cars regarding high revving is flywheel explosion. Chassis twist is more of an issue with very torquey stump puller engines, not high revving racing engines, which utilize gearing (leverage) to obtain significant torque at the wheels (where it matters).

Conceptually, wankel rotary engines could rev very high, higher than reciprocating piston engines. However, mazdas current implementation will not be seeing 30,000 RPM any time soon in my opinion. There are physical limitations like apex seal float and eccentric shaft flex which will keep this from happening, not to mention the volume of air you would have to flow through the motor to sustain that rpm.

If any of you are interested in learning more about these engines or further debating this topic feel free to come over to nopistons.com and join up, there are plenty of knowledgeable folks there.

If you don't understand horsepower and torque, and why an engine that revs to 30,000RPM would be useful, read this article:

    cheers.

Not the answer you were looking for but maybe it helps
    I'm probably way off target

I want to know how the hell you can get a $40k loan and only pay $200 a month? I bought a $15k car and I pay $300 per month on it. And a loan with no real job and no help from mommy and daddy....I smell a little BS or a crook.

Uh huh... And your perfectly fine going in an airplane at 400 knots.

Actually, you can get the bends from flying too much... especially in an unpressurized aircraft.

    >Wow a video game thats years old, wonderful source of info man!

I had that game for PSX. Got it when I was in 8th grade. It was
one of the few games my mom would play with me (the others
being: Donkey Kong Country, and Super Puzzle Fighter II).

    Anyway, I have a '98 Dodge Stratus: Black; 57,000 miles. It's
better than all of your cars.

Don't believe me? Go jump in your car right now. Push it to 101mph and feel yourself collapse into a heap of nitrogen-induced hallucinations.

Hmm... Its been a long week... Nitrogen-induced hallucinations seem like a good idea right now.
