the pro of career in life.

did you know that nowadays the jobs is quite hard to find for the gratulated students after the wars. even if the company offer job for particular person, the salary that offered is quite low. yeah, i think it's a big challenges for all of the gratulated students who wish to find some new job.

    one thing is ...
are we pro students? that's a point i still wondering.

let take me as an example :
now i'm studying course of information system engineering, and will going to find out some programmer job. there would be most important part, how far i learn the programming languages.

until now, i have learned C , JAVA , HTML , XHTML, javascript, SQL, VB. what do you think ? i think it's not enough for me. so what should i do? try to learn as much as i can ? or simply take out some programming languages randomly? or .... hmm .. i knew that would take a lot of years to master the most of the programming language. however, new generation prog language have been released, i afraid i can't catch out of them, and i might knew that i should face a lot of challenge during interview. most of jobs for interview , should get to know a lot of qualification. i knew that few languages is not enough for me and also the boss too. and i'm sure i will fail in the interview too.

hmm... anyway, just giving some ideals that what am i thinking at. so any comment about it ?

You are correct when you say it is difficult to find an IT job right now. It has been this way for more than a year. There is much doubt and hesitancy in the business world in general, and when business is worried, it stops investing in IT, it "makes do" with what it has got.

Customers stop buying, IT firms start firing. When a job does appear, recently qualified students will be competing against seasoned professionals with a proven track record.

You can never have enough skills in your box. Use any time you have to learn more. C++ and C# are things you could easily add to your list.

No offence, I've "spoken" to you a few times now, improving your English is a good thing as well, marketable skill in international business.

    >>> Looks like many projects from foreign countries have ended in India..

A lot of the big software houses set up software shops in India, as you say, to cut costs, but many of the same firms are also struggling to find customers at the moment. Bottom line is, as I said, if the customers are worried about the global economic situation, they do spend money.

Logica, (UK software house), have asked certain staff if they would be prepared to relocate to India.

There is also a problem with the India/Pakistan sabre rattling. I know for a fact that my firm vetoed outsourcing to India early last year. The subcontractor said the Indians were capable, and I would agree, but at the time, they were squaring up for a nuclear exchange with Pakistan. One has to wonder what kind of support you are going to get from a radioactive wasteland. I don't wish to discuss the wrangle between the countries, I simply make the point that it is hurting inward investment in the region.

Wow that's alot of langauges. Do you know enough in a single language to write a "useful" program though? By useful I mean something people will want to use because it's easy to use, does what they want, and is better than the alternatives out there for at least a few reasons. It doesn't have to be the best but it does have to have a few advantageous qualities over other programs that are similiar. Every useful program you write would look great on your resume I'd think and you would learn more. I only know C but to be honest I don't think I've written a useful program yet heh. Goodluck.

    re:

    adrianxw,

yeah, nowadays my country would hire most of the worker from india. so what's the evidence anyway ? most of the india students are gratulated from master or phD. so ? what's a big deal ? you see .. they just go study the phd for small amount (i mean is rupee). so , when they are gratulated from coll or university, they could go to work whether local country or oversea. they would accept the job although the salary is low than actual salary. for eg : if their salary that were offer as a programmer about RM1000, they would very glad to accept it. you know RM1000 for them could fullfill their wishes. (oh wat i mean is the RM money changed to ruppee) see ... that;s the point i still wondering.

so what do think ? should i continue study until PHD ?

did you know that most of the company hire worker who got alot of programming language ? yeah .. i got your point adrianxw, that why i still mastering the english right now.

    sourcecode.

yeah , although there's a few, but i think it's not enough for me. did you know that most of company didn't use C anymore? hm ... maybe it's happen in my country. mostly they hire ppl who got knowledge of C# or C++ , or maybe JAVA.

so ... i think you still have a lot of times to learn the programming.
    but i can't, coz i'm 20-am already.i afraid i can't get any job.

thank anyway, and good luck for you too. learn more programming language is better for you.

for eg : COBOL - vital language, very old language that you may learn, nowadays most of ppl didn't learn about this language. as you know the COBOL is used for mainframe. it's the only language that support mainframe.

p/s sorry for poor english that i learned. hopefully , i could improving for short period :P

beely - as you work on improving your English, I would suggest working on grammar first, and then vocabulary. If you could get better with the grammar, your English would be fine. You could try getting some basic children's books in English online (just to become more familiar with the basic grammar). Anyway, 20 is not too old to get a job, just keep learning as much as you can. Try to focus on a specific language and get really good with that.
    Away.

It struck me when I was there, that there are a lot of Indians in Malaysia, a substantial percentage of the population in fact. I guess that leads to a little nepotism.

i agree with you adrianxw .. The satandoff between Indian and Pak is surely harming us.... And in Malaysia there was some problems Indian IT profs faced.... Arrested even though they had valid VISA... The Indian govt had to play it hard on Malaysia to get them released with an apology....

But i think it is true we might have the cost advantage.. because when converted into rupees it is a big amount here.....

    Guys,

although learning new languages is very useful but the bottom line is experience and your line of thinking. we must keep in mind that knowing programs is not everything in the computer field (maybe its only 40% of what its all about) Business and strategic thinking is what employers are looking for today.

You could be the best programmer in the world, but if you cant help a company manage their dollars and cents and increase their revenue, well, you would not be really useful to them!

and one more point, i dont think obtaining a Phd degree in the computer field is such a great idea; why would employers want to hire you, with a Phd degree, and pay you $100,000+ when I can do the same thing for much lower price and with only a Bach. degree (of course im using us in this example). The bottom line is it all comes down to you mastering a business mind!

    cheers,
    Ben
