    truths

i read an article on soft america (kids in school) and hard america (people in the real world and in the military...it was half a war article) and I decided to start a list of truths that everyone is going to have to face when they get into 'hard' america (real world, not military per se)

    - you aren't necessarily anything special
    - you won't necessarily like your job
    - you won't necessarily get paid a lot

first three i thought of, now i'd like to give other people a chance.

    - What you know is probably worthless.
    - You will not be catered to (unless you pay for it).
    - You'll be trampled many a time before you learn the game.

-People won't necessarily care about you even when you are having a hard time

I would like to add one that is at least semi optimistic just to make this thread more fair
-Despite the fact that a lot of things suck, you can stand it when things suck (it wont' actually kill you) and you get out of life what you put in

-Generally the public is a $$$$$y, winey, annoying mass.
    -The public eye is untrustworthy.

Oh, and about the transition from high school:
-Gangsters are lamers. (But then again, they will be flipping my hamburgers for me! Oh wait... there was just Mad Cow disease in Alberta... fine then, they deep fry my fries)
    -Popularity doesn't last.
-University and College cost alot more than you thought!

    Most of all:
    -The truth hurts.

Jeez, I think someone didn't have a great time in high school and is a bit vindicative.

Its not what you know, its who you know.

Its not about making the right or wrong choice, its about making the least objectionable choice.

    - You always have to do more, with less.

    - It's always 'just a couple lines of code, right?'.

    - The people with the least amount of knowledge get to make the important decisions, and you get to pay for it.

    - Even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

    - You can always blame it on the guy that's not there.

    - Time is money

This probably is the most important thing. Back in school, I thought it's bull$$$$. I had so much time on my hands, and so little money. I would have wasted any amount of time to save money. Now, having a job, it's the other way round. I do have money, but I don't have time. Sometimes I get the feeling I don't even have the time to spend it. I would waste money to save time.
Time is a ressource just like money, and it gets more valuable later.

    - Everything you do may be wrong. Including doing nothing. There's no safety net anymore.

    - Brains will be more useful than brawns. There are no grades for "phys ed." or school fights in real life. Good manners and smarts will count.

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.
