Question windows xp and aol (im's)

Here's one that I hope someone may have an answer to.....
My wife just purchaced a brand new desktop which came with windows xp. Her other machine had windows 95. Now before
getting the new machine she never had a problem with AOL. Now that she is up and running with the new machine and windows xp, she is having the following issues:

When she is in AOL and using IM's she finds herself getting a
aol error saying that you have exceeded your rate limit and then she is disconnected. Aol says she is typing to fast within the IM.....she types with two fingers and it is not fast. We were curious if anyone else out there has encounted a similar issue and what was done to correct it.
    Thanks,

    -Rick

LOL.... that is the lamest helpdesk excuse to date.......

It more or less sums up AOL for me.....thats why I have never used it. If you want a decent Instant Messanger service, try Yahoo. Its free.

AOL might suck, but AOL Instant Messenger is great. I have had it for at least 5 to 6 years, and I love it. I have had Windows XP for about a month now, and I have not had a problem with AOL IM, so I dont know what the problem your getting is. I dont know how to help you with that...

The problem that she has is that while in aol and maybe having a room open, she will receive a IM from a friend. Now within 10 mins or so she will receive a aol message saying that she has exceeded her rate limit. AOL does not really know what to do with this problem.
    Thanks,

Note to all: AOL help desk people are morons!

Ok, I figured this out real quickly, and so did all of my non-computer literate friends. The rate limit is how many times you can send IMs during a certain time frame. So if you send like 10 messages in rapid succession it cuts you off and you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can IM again. so you can't talk to someone like

    hi
    whassup?
    I'm real bored
    wheeee
    wow
    you're
    not
    talking
    much
    !!!!!

thanks for the feed back.....we do understand whats causing it, but are confused why none of my wifes friends are having the same problem. My wifes system is a xp and we started with 6.0 then upgraded to 7.0 her friends have 98 and 6.0, but are not having any problems. Is it aol or xp that we need to get this corrected. Aol understands the issue, but does not know how to fix it.

    Any input would be great.
    Thanks,

    -Rick

Get ICQ. That will solve your problem

It's AOL and there's no way to "fix" it. It's programmed into the system.

    ICQ is decidedly terrible.

    thanks ken for the input......

we just found it so strange that it only started to happen when we bought my wife a new pc (which came with aol6.0 and xp)

    thanks,

p/s our other machine had a 233 win 98 and rel 6.0, but I just thought of something...the machine was a 233(slow machine) vs her new machine which is 1.4 gig. I wonder if it has to do with now her machine is much faster so her responce is much quicker?
    Thanks,

    -Rick

    i don't think that's a problem...

i had a 133 win 95 with AIM and then got an 833 win 98 with AIM and i didn't encounter any problems.. that's like 8 times more powerful (figuring ram in too)...
