I'm not from the Uk myself but when you are going to study in the UK, you wont be staying in a youth hosetl the whole year.
    Or am i missing something.

Friend of me is a member of it and he says the membership can be really usefull. But this guy goes out to travel with his bike each year, so he really has an advantage by being a member of it. Coz he stays each evening in the youth hostel...

Youth hostles are not open the whole year. They are not meant to stay for a long time, usually just for a few days.

I also have a membership card. It is very usefull, it makes travelling quite cheap and there are a lot of them.

    vasanth,

Are you after temporary accomodation or accomodation for the whole degree?

Your university should have halls of residence for new students at least. My university gave us a room for the first year and then we were on our own from then on. But I shouldn't worry too much about accomodation around a university, there will most likely be plenty.

EDIT: You replied before I posted, so ignore most of this.

Then it may be very usefull. It is a cheap way of travelling through Europe. But note that most of the youth hostles are open for a part of the year and you may have to book a place in front, especially in touristic regions. My experience, is that especially in the summer it can be busy in the youth hostles. But in spring and autum it is better. Also depends on the country you are.

I used to use a Youth Hostel Card about 25 years ago. Was a good thing then, probably still is.

Another thing you might qualify for is InterRail. It is a cheap train fare scheme for students and youngsters to get around Europe. There are some restrictions about residence but if your going to be a full time UK student I guess that will be okay.

If you browse the student webs, or when you get there, the union notice boards, you'll find Europe is absolutely full of offers for cheap student travel / summer jobs / etc.

You're going to have fun matey!

To be honest, in the UK I wouldnt bother with the Youth Hostel stuff. No one is into it.

On the continent you will have far more use for it.

Oh yeh, interesting-my new missus is from Middlesborough. At the very least I guess she can tell you the best pubs!
    Such is life.
