im in it because i like it, but hello gotta pay the bills. If i cant pay my bills in my programming career i'll leave it, it cant always be about the love for the field.

>>I'm seriously wondering if I will even last myself...I'm already thinking of not taking computer science (if i don't get into DIT) but taking Math instead.<<
If I was in your situation, I think I would do maths. Maths is one of those timeless subjects that will get you a foot in the door of many different careers. This is a real bonus considering how markets and economies change over time.
That and Math is something I have trouble teaching myself. Computer Science and programming is...well...easier (for me and many people on these boards). Math comes to me, but there's just so much I don't know about, and I don't think I would be able to get very far without taking math as a major or taking a lot of math electives in col.

I was just in a bad mood that day. Hey, if Davros drops out that's one more position open! Hell, I hope you ALL decide to stop programming. more chance for a salary increase for me!Originally posted by Silvercord
This worries me, this is the second professional software developer I've seen that wants to drop out (fill your brain was the other).

Haha, that's the digipen logic. The more people drop out, the better chance the rest of the students have when they graduateOriginally posted by FillYourBrain

i member a little while back there was a guy on the news he was in a tree and fell and a branch went a full foot up his butt.....i'll keep programming thanks.
Tell you what though, here in England and especially in London, people who are employed in the traditional trade professions are making a mint at the moment. The pendulum has swung so much towards everyone going to uni to become 'professionals' that there has hardly been anyone training to become plumbers, builders, tree surgeons etc etc. Good, reputable plumbers in particular, in London can earn hundreds of pounds a day.

Well, I'm one of those 16 year old kids who program for the fun of it. My dad always says programmers and CS majors are in really low demand right now, so he wants me to be a doctor, or engineer (not software), pretty much anything non-computer related just because it would pay better. I always tell him, "No, I'm going to have a job that I like." Think I'll last long enough or should I look for a new hobby?

Go for it. By the time you actually get to the work force, the market'll be totally different. Or, you could do computer engineering, which is programming and engineering.

i agree, even by the time i get out of college(1 year) the market will be different and i wont have trouble finding a job....my dad said the same thing to me but there are too many people out there that own computers and computers arent going away so no matter what he says, programmers will always be in demand on some level.... .....and they'll still make more money out of school than a doctor, i only say that because medical school is way more expensive than a cs degree
