    Angry Parents Divorce

I'm ........ed off. My mom just decided that she wants a divorce. They didn't explain it to me together, my dad just walked in and said "Well kids, your mother is divorcing me. She won't tell me why.". So I ask her why and I get "We are too different. It always has to be his way, etc..". So now I have to deal with my mother who cannot financially support herself very easily at all, and an alcoholic father, who will likely increase his drinking habit after the divorce. It has already been decided that I will live at home with my Dad, and my Mom will live on her own somewhere else. My mom is 53, has only $3500 in RRSP's. The worst thing of all is that they both expect me to spend 50% at each household; So that means 50% less programming time, that's what really really ........es me off. I don't care about their relationship, but when I watch the stupidity of them trying to solve things, plus that of less programming time I get very very angry. So lets see what I have deal with now:

Mother who cannot support herself easily.
Alcoholic Father who gets angry at everything. (He'll likely increase amount of alcohol consumption)
    50% Less Programming Time.
Having to deal with living @ 2 places at once.

It's all gay. Divorces should work like this: I get a house, parents move out. And when they want to see me they can drop by and say hello. God, this ........es me off. "Oh no, we're too wussy to even look at eachother after 20 years of marriage!". .......... this, I'm going to bed.

If that is the big issue, laptop?

Don't know your situation viz work/finance but you're 18 yes? I would probably be looking for my own place.

What about your brother(s)/sister(s) - what do they think?

Always the same thing with parents....my mother is just operated today (this morning) and all i know is that they had to operate because something was somewhere (that shouldnt be there)
    thats everything they told me....
Now when i gather all the information pack it together i know the problem (50% chance my mother has cancer). I knew that a week ago...that'll explain my dads frustration in everything (music too loud, cant do anything right, $$$$$ing bout my grades at school, what have you done with the comp now??, and so on....)

But they dont tell you all these things, guess they are in a way ashamed or whatever, feel they failed terribly somewhere along the road...

Divorce is great... My parents divorced when I was two. My dad
stayed in Oregon, and me and my mom moved to Utah. Being an
only child with a single parent is probably the greatest thing you
can experience. You can't believe how many things my mom bought
me, maybe out of guilt. If not guilt, then fear. I was a monster
as a child; tantrums daily. I got so many toys. I would constantly
hear my school-buddies complain that they had to wait until their
birthday to get a toy... not me, ever.

And we weren't rich, either. I grew up on on welfare and foodstamps.
My mom would spend her entire welfare check on getting me toys
for Christmas. Yeah, a welfare check that your taxes paid for.
Haha, suckers! You bought me a Nintendo!!!

I didn't have to worry about spending time with both parents. My
dad was too far away for me to see on a regular basis. I haven't
    seen him since Summer '91.

So really, think of it as a blessing. No more of that "from mom and dad"
BS that's always on your gifts. Now you get double the presents.
Well, unless one of them forgets. But the potential is still there.

So there is a good possibility that she does not. What I would do is ask your parents about the cancer, (not a general question, a specific cancer question). If she has it, then they'll know you are smart enough to have figured that out, despite them trying to "protect" you, if she doesn't, they'll probably tell you more to stop you worrying about it. Whatever, I hope she is okay soon.

Heh, yeah that's how I've always seen it too. Blah, divorces suck. Fortunately, it seems you're mature enough to handle it without any real problems.

    >I would probably be looking for my own place.<

I don't think he's 18 yet, still 17. But look on the bright side, Xei, you won't have to put up with it but for less than a year. Then you can tell them to come visit you when they wanna bond.

Okay, but my first wife's sister rented her first place by lying about her age when she was a couple of months short of 16!

Ohh boy.. divorce seems so common in the US.. here divorce is one in 10000000. I know hundreds of people who are married for more than 30, 40 years.. And some grandpas who are married for more than 60 years...

But vasanth where you live divorce is how you call it. Where you live a divorce can be compared with a man who stays @ home and the wife goes to work.
+ the man does the dishwashing etc (if you know what i mean).

Its a "taboe" (dunno what taboe is translated into english).

I don't know what "bleurgh" means, but you suck for calling me it.

But anyways. I was. You can't insult me. I don't care what anonymous,
internet denizens think of me. It was ~13 years ago. I've moved
on. I'm not going to take responsibility and admit fault for being
a "gimme gimme brat" either. I was 8 -- Toys and things made me
happy. I've never been interested in love and bonding type
garbage. I see families singing together at Christmas, praying
together on Sundays; bleh, even hugging each other. They're all
whackos. Co-dependent whackos. They should inviduate. When I
rule the world, the first thing to go is "the family."

    Besides, a fat,...

I was soo fat when I was young. I even played the part of
Santa Clause in my 2nd grade school Christmas Play. Everybody
else got to be clowns and do gymnastics. Those bastards, I felt
special when the teachers asked me to take the part. But it wasn't
because of my superior acting ability that they aksed me. It was
because of my size. There were no other fat boys in my 2nd
grade class. Mrs. Clause was pretty, though. Her name was Emily.

...8 year old boy raised in poverty by a single parent is bound to
have behavioural issues. Doesn't mean I still have them. Doesn't
mean that I care that I ever had them. I'm normal now. Normal
    and great.

Blah, blah, blah. You're so jealous of me. Just admit it. I'm everything
you want to be. It's understandable; afterall, I am rad. Not many
people can attain the status of "rad." It takes years and years
of being "cool", followed by a few months of "awesome" training
before one is even eligable to receive the "rad" label. I've worked
hard at becoming rad. I deserve to be rad.

Ahhhh!!! I hate you so much!!!

That's because there, marriages are arranged. And if the bride
and groom don't marry each other, they're executed. True story.
