I think we've all experienced that kind of treatment when learning. Many of the people who consider themselves 'Elite' only talk to people with the same knowledge level as themselves. However, communities such as this, with people who have gone through the trouble of learning a new language without help, can help educate others with ease in a mostly-responsible environment.Originally posted by volk

Where's that 48k beast of a speccy gone? Well, I started playing with BASIC, enjoyed that..............................
Then had a 25 yr break, got into Uni,started C++ and there we are.
I enjoy C++ and never found the initial concepts at all tough, Logical guy I guess.
But then it gets hard.
Such is life.
Yeah. I don't think the basics are all that hard, except maybe hardcore pointer stuff.
But program design can be tough on a large program, especially when it's a team effort and you may not know what someone else is doing.
A lot of the current trend in C++ is also toward template or metatemplate programming (at least judging by the articles in CUJ), and that can be mindnumbing.
I was foolish I jumped right into C in 5th grade, I could do it with the book, I just didn't have a good enough memory to remember all the stuff. So that scared me away until I got back into again in 8th.

I got my first C++ book when I was 14 from my math teacher. I would get motivated, read the book, not learn anything and get ........ed off. I would literally quit and then go hit stuff and kick my cat, but I just thought programming was so cool I always went back to it. Kind of like my alcohol problem!
