    If you could tell....

A while ago at FD there was a thread (i think govtcheez started it, i might be wrong) that asked this question(or a very close variation of it):

If you could tell your twelve year old self something, what would you say?

So, as i find this interesting, anyone care to answer?

    c++->visualc++->directx->opengl->c++;
(it should be realized my posts are all in a light hearted manner. And should not be taken offense to.)

I would tell my younger self to start a lot of things sooner. Right now I really love programming in C++, playing volleyball, and dating girls, but I started all of those things only withing the last few years, so in all three I'm not quite what I could be.

I'd tell me to take a programming course and go out for the volleyball team my freshman year of high school. I'd also give me the heads up on which girls to pursue and what to do and not do.

Hmmm. This post has gotten me thinking about what my life would be like if I had started those things sooner. Oh, well, what's done is done. It is my aim to never regret something I haven't done; likewise, I never regret anything I have done, even if that means utter failure for trying. Definitely better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.

Here's a better question: do you think your twelve year-old self would even listen to you?

Absolutely. I was much dorkier back then, and very much a trekie. I used to wish even back then that I could go back in time to change things. Plus, if my modern self would tell my younger self, he would be very impressed with how much I've accomplished since then.

I would not tell my 12 year old self anything, as that has great potential to harm who you have become.

Twelve year old self? That girls are just as confused as you are.
    Would it matter? No.
Would I tell my twelve year old self anything specific? You bet. Invest heavily in a company called Microsoft, which will be created in a few years. And bet all your money on Secretariat.

I didn't mean that I wanted my twelve year old self to be dating. I'd just like to give my younger self a heads up on some things. For example, had I dated some girls a few months sooner or known about some things, life would be easier for me.

Go ahead. Laugh at my teenage angst. You know you want to, so just get it all out.

I'd tell my twelve-year-old self this: For the love of all that is treasured, avoid that seemingly delicious but anomalous pool of chocolate pudding!

I might also drop a hint about Osama bin Laden and that my younger self should go to Afghanistan to engage him in a battle to the death.

On the home front the only thing I'd redo is some early financial mistakes when we first got married. "Definitely think before you buy".

On the job front start programming sooner, especially SQL.

And yes my 12 year old self would listen. I was so geeky it'd have been like an episode of the Outer Limits or something to me.
