I was thinking, earlier today, about how typing has replaced writing more and more in the world at the present. Most of the way we communicate doesn't involve writing anymore, and most kids during summer do not write at all besides what is required of them (forms for school and whatnot).
Do you think that writing will be forgotten by our civilization in favour of a computerized or telepathy-to-machine-that-writes-when-you-want-it-to writing machines?
Well personally its good for me as my handwriting is terrible. I have never managed to be able to write tidily no mater how much effort I put into it.
I can remember a teacher moaning at me when I was a child..."You'll never amount to anything without being able to write properly"..

writing in the PC is great...it is easy, if you make a
mistake there is no problem!
i wish i could write only in PC...unfortunately...

well, if i have kids and they don't have to learn writing in school, i'm going to teach them. They'll be adored for their special ability to write
Sure typing's great, especially for those of us who don't have the best handwriting (present company included). But here's a question: In a 1000 years when some archeologists' trying to learn about us what will he find? Some old hard drives? CD's with C++? Half-Life? Video tapes of Fraiser? And when he does find these things how's he going to make sense of them. I mean none of us can expect a complete computer to make it can we? A whats to happen of all this stuff on the internet. Handwritting's defimately a lost art (grandmother complained that i was never taught penmanship the other day hehe) But what will the future repricutions of this lost art be?
hehe, i'm sure that all of there won't be much use for earth when we need archeologists to dig up the remnants of our past civilization. Ours has grown too large for it to just dissapear. We would probably end up moving to different planets in another few thousand years when we run out of natural resources. The earth may end up as the cosmic dumping ground for the rest of the universe's crap.
I'm sure that all the crap that we print out will be findable if some alien civilization would come to our planet after we kill ourselves off...

Anyways, I think handwriting might be declining (horrid penmanship here, too), but I don't think it's going to become extinct or anything. It's mroe convenient, while walking by someone's desk, to just scribble them a note, than to go back to your cubicle and fire off an e-mail.
Maybe the disappearance of handwriting's a good thing, though - we'll save some paper, at least.

LOL, I couldn't help but chuckle when I thought about that....
at the current point in technology writing is a little easier and faster, but in the future, we may be able to telepathincally type onto some paper instead of writing...
maybe we will all carry around portable keyboards or something that we can yank out and type on?
Sooner or later computers will permeate all aspects of society.
Well right now our best technology is still books, not computers.

One day monitors will have a high enough resolution so that people will not have to print out long documents. I've seen some high resolution crystal liquid monitors but I don't own one yet.
Microsoft? I have Microsoft Reader. It's clear type technology is interesting. I haven't tested it out yet.

is clear type that stuff that's supposedly makes it so your eyes don't hurt? hmm...I wonder how they do that. Maybe a mesh of a few colors? Dunno...
Ok, now dean. think about this. Are you gonna walk around with your high-res crystal-whatever monitor in your hand, or are you going to print out the document. I'd think printing it would be the best way to do things...unless you want to go monitorless for a while while somebody reads your next essay...
I'm going to only print out what I have to. I want a crystal liquid display monitor in the near future, i WANT EVERYTHING HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!
