Shane Warne out of the World Cup.

I read this with some disbelief. It says that this is a preliminary result, but it also says that Australia are trying to appoint a replacement. I doubt a simple diuretic would be performance enhancing - I can see how sports that were affected by weight may have a problem with them, but not cricket.

I really find it hard to believe a player of his standing would intentionally cheat.

On another note, the opener WIndies win over SA rasied my eyebrow.

    *** EDIT ***

    This from ACB.

Well, whatever, he's been sent home, so I guess that is the end of his one day career. What a sad way for it to end. As I said, I don't for a minute think he has done anything wrong.

Anyone got a live commentary link, those I have are not covering it, I would have thought baggy green would, but no.

It is not a matter of whether he has done something right or wrong, its just abt. the rules .. he should hv told the authorities abt what he has taken beforehand..

Remember what happened when Sachin Tendlkar was accused of 'ball tampering..' that was blasphemy...

if u want the link for commentary for the aus-pak match then here it is..

    What can you say?

    We will miss Warnie.

    But it looks bad.........

Someone in his position would know (having been advised at the begining of each season) what he could and could not take. His reputation and career depend upon it.

I find it hard to understand why a doctor would advise an international cricketer to take a 'fluid reduction' drug before he went out to exercise in the Aussie summer.
I do not think an international sportsman would take anything without a doctor telling him it was OK, especially just before a (his last) world cup.

Unless it was, please let it not be, to mask a streoid used so his injured shoulder would heal in time for the world cup.

    >>I saw a press conference today and he's saying its not true
Just for once I would like someone to come out and say they did it, because they all say they didn't or took it unintentionally.

PS Good to see Holland in the world cup. Wonder how they will do.

I just saw on the news that he took and flu tablet from his mum, which is not allowed.

Now everyone on tv is calling him stupid.

It says here that the drug used was an intentionally taken diuretic to drain fluid from his injured shoulder. Surely, someone like Warne would/should have okayed this with the team medical staff before taking it?

    >>> Holland in the world cup. Wonder how they will do.

Well, they are playing their opening match right now and India seem to be making tough going, they are 128-5 after 34 overs. I can see the headlines now...

"Underdogs Holland, after scoring 460-1 in their 50 overs, bowl Australia out for 16 in World Cup Final - Daan van Bunge, the only Dutchman to loose his wicket, (caught at deep midwicket on 224), said, 'it was a silly mistake, I couldn't decide whether to hit it for 4 or 6!'"

    ... well, we'll see.

Yes. Would you? (if only the $500,000 Hampshire contract rested on it not to mention the World Cup)?

He gets a briefing at the start of the season, a book with all the banned chemicals in and has medical staff available 24/7 and he takes something from his mom?

Even if he did a stupid thing the situation looks bad given the circumstances.

    LOL!
Only if the eight Dutch players that scored a total of seven runs can find the ball with the bat. Looked good for a while there though.
