    Bs

    How many of you think that people here BS about things they say?

    I think that the percentage is pretty high, although personally I don't. For instance, one people claims that he has a TB hard drive and put airplane fuel in his dirt bikes. Sounds a little sketchy to me.

    I can't particularly see the benefit of lying on a messageboard... I've got nothing to hide (besides my sandwich - that old codger Betazep always wants my damned sandwich!)

    BS% is inversly proportional to mental age. The older and more mature you are, the less likely it is you need the BS.

    I agree with adrian. I think it also has to do with your intelligence level...

    The more intelligent you are, the less likely you will have to BS.

    The only reason for the need of BS, is due to the lack of knowledge...

    Here is a funny bs meter.

    well having 1TB worth of disc space is very possible, but it would be expensive as HELL (1 180GB SCSI disc drive costs over 1,000 dollars I think, plus you would need the adapters and a new power supply and a lot of alcohol to deal with it all) and yes putting airplane fuel in recreational vehicles is silly. I actually think that person was talking about atvs, which is a moot point because dirt bikes and atvs almost always have 1 cylinder, some have 2, and i doubt putting airplane fuel would do much of anything except cause more heat increasing the liklihood that something might expand and break and explode and kill people

    There are, of course, a great many professionals that rarely find they have to pay for their own equipment...

    I also notice a bunch of people BSing about their coding ability or claiming they can code something/coded something which, judging by their skill level, obviously couldn't. Others claim they make money coding. For example, there was a thread awhile back where someone posted a question towards professional programmers, and others were answering as if they were. (Although if they were, I really pity the employer...)

    Seriously, what do you have to gain!?

    Eibro,

    I think it is very difficult to make a judgement on someone's overall ability to program simply by looking at their posts on this board. You could be an excellent java coder but a complete noob at C++. Or even more specifically, a great C++ coder but a complete noob at WinAPI for example. They might be professionals, just not at C++/C.

    That may be true, but then, this board is called CProgramming.com. I think it should be safe to assume that people answering questions here should be proficient. That is not actually the case, frequently you will see an answer to a question that is hopelessly wrong. Unfortunately with our business, it is all to easy to think you know how to do something, and indeed, advise others, but your own starting point is suspect, and you don't know enough to recognise that.

    This is not aimed at anyone in particular.

    Although syntax is not shared among languages, many other things are. If you come across a someone who is proficient in at least one other language, it's blatently obvious. Someone learning programming for the first time, well that's also obvious.

    If someone claims they're a professional programmer... i'll believe them. It's not like i'm out to seperate the posers from the genuine professionals... I don't care that much; I just find it sad to see people act this way.

    Hey, now - when I was coding Windows NT, I heard from lots of snots like you...

    BTW: what's wrong with this code?
    Code:

    #inlcude <stdlibio.h>
    void main(int R, char Q);
    {
    cout("Enter a number");
    int num;
    cin<<num;
    cout(num);
    return R;
    }

    BS is just stupid. There is no need to BS. I have been with the internet for 32 years, even back when we had to write all our emails in binary, and I've always noticed it to be the youngns who lie. Maybe they just want to be accepted or maybe they're stupid bastards, last night whilst I was having sex with my amazingly beautiful girlfriend in my ferrarri balanced on top of the eiffel tower, I was thinking about how modest I am, and how I never bs.
