    How do you judge yourself

    I was just poking around cboard and in someone's signature it said "all hail John Carmack". Oddly, I was taken back, and after a little while somewhat scared. Why would we want to hail John Carmack? I mean, yes, he's an awesome developer and he deserves a lot of respect for that, but why would you hail him? I know the sig wasn't meant to be taken with utmost seriousness, however do people actually believe, on any level, that more skillfull people are actually better people? Carmack deserves a pat on the back and some free beer, but not to be hailed. I know this thread is just, off, and maybe it's only to help me with myself, but the dumbest things throw me off sometimes. Is anyone else here just screwed up, other than me.

    EDIT:
    and just for the record, I don't feel like not being taken seriously on this one. If you have something extremely stupid to say, pm me, but don't taint my potentially good conversation in public.

    Hello! I would be the culpret heh By hail I don't mean "worship him" or anything like that. I'm also not saying he's a better person than anyone else.

    Quote from dictionary.com:

    v. hailed, hail·ing, hails
    v. tr.

    1 To salute or greet.
    2 To greet or acclaim enthusiastically
    //thats what I mean
    3 To call out or yell in order to catch the attention of

    He's just my role-model type person. He and 3 others made Wolfenstien 3D (the first FPS) in an appartment in 1992. This was back in the shareware days of id, now look where they are! This is a rather encouraging story for me because I hope to start up a software company...and hopefully being successful.

    Your history is wrong.

    I agree with you Shadow12345, Carmack is a smart and very gifted person, but, he's just a person. He's not godly.

    Im afraid Im going to have to disagree with you there...this is the person who started threads like "Do you like cheeze" and posted things like "America should invade Canada, nobody has kicked their asses for a while" (not exact quote)

    //EDIT: woops, after being PM'ed by Shadow, I realise that he said that Carmack was gifted. Oh well. I dont care what he posts, I dont agree with him.

    Red Storm's the comapny that does Tom Clancy games (Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, etc.). Ion Storm's Romero's company, but it's not all sucky - the group of programmers he's not associated with did good stuff with Deus Ex.

    well this is sort of getting beyond the point of why i started this thread. I was just feeling depressed because I just stopped feeling like doing anything, but then i realized that i shouldn't really feel all that depressed because not doing anything doesn't make me a bad person. I just used carmack as a catalyst for expression, and I wanted to see what others thought.

    Why was romero kicked out? Did he slap people? That's not nice.

    Shadow12345, you sound very much like a good friend of mine(Neal by name). I'm a little bored so...I'll tell you a story involving a couple of friends, Neal, and me! This might be a little long...but I'm bored **shrug**

    If anyone actually reads this I will be totally astounded, it turned out to be quite long.

    CAST:
    Aaron-=>that would be me
    Neal-=>a very good friend of mine
    Doug-=>friend that always dumps pop and pizza on Neal's car (Neal hates it)
    Mark-=>friend

    Ok, d0ug, mark, and I were going to go job hunting. We get some applications and go to "The Machine Shed." We get sat down and look at the menus, and its like $12 (US) for a friggin hamburger! I'm like "um...lets just go to denny's....**points out window**" So we get up and then the waitress comes by and says "where are you guys going!?" I just walked by her and said "oh, we forgot we don't have money." Then mark kinda throws the menu at her and we walk out. Out there there's a pay phone, so I decide to call Neal and see if he wants to come. He has CallerID and doesn't recognize the phone#, so he doesn't pick up (he's just so paranoid like that). I left a 4 minute message (standard length) to annoy him and tell him where we are going (the funny thing is that he feels bad if he doesn't listen to the whole message, not that thats bad). So we go to denny's and sit there, get our food, start to fill out applications, and then in walks Neal. I'm like "howdy Neal! Why are ya whering that hat?" (he never wheres hats while not at work). He shrugs and pulls it off, and he shaved his head! wowee, that was a shocker. He ordered stuff and then we all ate, then he suggested icecream at DQ. I drive with him and the other 2 drive together. Well me and Neal get there like 3 mins before the other 2, so we get sundaes. The other 2 get in, and they also get sundaes. We eat most of our sundaes, then start to leave. Well me and d0ug still have 1/2 of our sundaes left. d0ug has this horrible tendency of dumping pop/pizza/other crap on Neal's car, and Neal hates it. So d0ug starts walking towards Neal's car, and says "hey Neal, how would ya like a sundae on your hood!??" Neal, in a toneless voice says "...no..." d0ug says "Ok, I'll let Aaron decide what to do with it!" Then he set the sundae on the top of Neal's car. I go "yeah yeah!" and proceed to run towards Neal's car. d0ug was parked right next to Neal's car, so I grabbed the sundae, and threw it over Neal's car to hit d0ug's car. To my surpise, d0ug laughs, turns around, and "waddles" (I can't explain it...) away. Neal yells "AARON WHAT DID YOU DO!?!?" I'm very perplexed at this, then I start to walk around the front of Neal's car to get a better look at the damage to d0ug's car. To my great surpise and horror, it turns out it wasn't d0ug's car at all... SO, we decided it would be best to get out of there as fast as possible. Me and Neal were out of there in 6.45 seconds flat. I'm still not sure who's car it was, but the reason we took off so fast was because there was this big black guy in DQ also. Oh, btw, both d0ug's car and the car I hit were black and roughly the same size, plus I was on the other side of Nea's car.

    Geez, I never thought I would type that much...congratulations, you just wasted at least 5 minutes of your life (well I just wasted 15...)
