    Smile First Year PL's at Universities

    SIGCSE has done its annual survey of first year languages at Universities and the primary languages used in CS curricula

    Here are the results (First Year Languages)

    2001-2002

    C- 11% C++ -40% Java- 49% Ada -4% Pascal-2%

    (Primary Languages used in Curricula)

    2001-2002

    C++ -53% Java 51% C- 22% Ada- 2% Pascal %2 Smalltalk- 2%

    Well universities are finally realizing how important OOP is becoming. C++, Java, and Smalltalk are based on OOP, and Ive learned all of them, C++ and Smalltalk in an OO course.

    Although I dont think procedureal programs such as C, will just vanish into thin air, I think its hard for people like myslef to program in something like C, when I have been doing so much OO.

    I think they are taking the right steps.
