    Information Age

    The industrial age is still evolving to some extent but some would argue that its in it's twilight Decades.
    I for one think that it is middle aged and having trouble trying to cope with the delicate but swift embrace of the information revolution.
    I talk about the Industrial age here as a reference to my actual question:

    At which stage do you think the information age is at:

    -Primitive
    -Plateau (middle aged)
    -Close to Maxed out

    Well I would argue that the information age began with the invention of the printing press. I would further argue we are nearing the end of the information age, and starting on the knowledge era. The key issue this decade for organisations and governements will be knowledge management.

    I'm going to argue that the information age started with man's ability to comunicate, and that it will end only if man no longer able to keep secrets, and thus as all information is shared.

    man can't keep secrets.

    If secret is kept secret, then it is not known, and is therefore not a secret. You must know something isn't known before you can label it as a secret... this is a very odd idea... but If a secret is known about, then it is no longer a secret.

    so therefore mankind cannot "keep a secret".

    that seems a little off. In your opinion, the information age has been dead since the radio was invented. After that communists could hear what it was like to live in a democratic society, hence the secret their govt was trying to keep from them is no longer secret. So if the information age ended then, what is this we're living in?

    The infomation age is man's abilty to spread knowlege based on choice. This will only end if at one point man no longer has the choice about sharing his or her knowledge whatever it would be how to create a microwave oven, or the name of the girl you have a crush on. I will define this new area as the unversal knowlege area.

    No...the information age didnt end back when the radio was invented....

    Communism wasn't even in practice in any countries when the radio was invented...study your history.

    Radio was invented in the 1890's if I recall correctly, and the first country to practice communism was the Soviet Union, which was created after a very bloody revolution somewhere around 1910 or so.

    I dont know what to call that period of time, but it wasnt the information age. The space age was in the 1960's era, and the information age is occurring right now.

    man you don't even read my posts do you??

    first of all it was according to sentakus definition that the information age ended then, and the communist thing was the only example i could come up with at the time.

    I would argue that although "the information age" could technically encompass many eras (including anciant ones), the typical reference is to the one beginning in the '50s with the common presence of computers in corporations and even smaller companies. I think we are still in the infancy of information technology. For one, the size of equipment will continue to shrink for quite awhile, leading to bigger memory and speed. Programs, on the other hand, will evolve perhaps indefinately. I'd say that with all of the possiblities, the IA may well reach into the next millenium, putting the current times into the "ancient history" bracket.
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }
