Question Shareware Sites - Updating Them

I have just updated references to my software on around 7 shareware download sites. There were only 7 sites, but it took me the whole evening.

Surely there must be a better way to get your applications out to the world than this. There must be hundreds of shareware sites. Am I required to register my software, and maintain the references, with every single one of them? That would be a full time job.

How do I get my software out to as many shareware sites as possible, while expending only a sensible amount of effort? I have PAD files, but so few sites seem to make use of them.

I once downloaded a program (from AnalogX I think) that submitted your program to hundreds of share-/freeware sites.

I submitted my program HyperEdit using it (don't remember the name) and I recieved many downloads, so many that my webspace provider closed my account! Thus, my program never reached the masses.

    (Edit) I found it..
