Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against education, but you are talking about a $2billion+ proposal to lower class size, which has not been proven conclusively to have any affect on educational quality.
First of all, as someone who as taught, and been taught, I can tell you absolutely (especially from the teacher point of view) that small class sizes is key. Especially in elementry schools. There are various reasons for this, and to be honest I'm simply too lazy to type them all out right now hehe . However, I do agree with you that 2 billion is a lot of money, but it is something that should be done. Especially in elementry schools. However, some of this money would be better spen raising teacher saleries and benifits to ensure that top quality teacher are in teh schools. Lets be honest, I bet this nation looses a while lot of it's best teacehrs to the workplace because that's where the money is.

And fatty food causes obesity. I have a choice not to eat it just as I have a choice not to frequent a restaurant that allows smoking. There are lots of examples. Outdoor restaurants for instance.... sun has been proven to cause skin cancer. Should it be illegal for a restaurant to provide an outside eating area? Or even to only have an outdoor eating area? There were choices BEFORE this law. I never ate around smokers. You know why? because I wasn't forced to eat at a given restaurant.

But the difference is that if I eat fatty food, I am not affecting the other patrons of the restaurant. Or the staff, who incidentally don't usually have the choice not be in contact with people who are smoking.

This argument has been done here in Florida to great extent, and the amendment passed by millions of voters.

first of all, ammendments should only be done through legislative people. That's a flaw. You can't expect voters to get the whole picture of the implications by a short blurb of text. Emotions play too big a role.

second, like I said, you had a choice not to be effected by second hand smoke. You never needed government to make that decision for you.

Sorry. I needed to get that out of my system.

The results are in for Missouri. Rep. Dick Gephardt (Democrat, House minority leader) has yet another term in office. St. Louis County executive "Buzz" Westfall was also re-elected. According to the media, Missouri has a Republican-majority legislature for the first time in about fifty years; I have to say I contributed to that: I voted for a Republican house representative instead of the conservative, virtual Republican Democrat.

The smokers seem to have gotten out in big numbers to keep the price of cigarettes down. Proposition A, to increase the sales tax per pack of cigarettes by 55 cents, was narrowly defeated. Maybe it's these same smokers (more often Republican, I'd say) who caused the most important defeated for the Democrats:

In the Senate race in Missouri, incumbent Jean Carnahan (Dem.) lost to Republican Jim Talent! A Republican presidency, House of Representatives, Senate, and conservative Supreme Court is something to fear: America has spoken, and they want Bush for king.

Many nonsmokers enjoy the dining experience had at restaurants. They would not like to be limited to fast-food restaurants but rather experience all the nonchain restaurants, which, from my experience, almost always allow smoking, at least in certain areas. I do not want smoke with my spaghetti, thank you very much. Having smoking sections is a very real determinant in choosing a restaurant at which to eat, and many nonsmokers choose the restaurant that has the right smoking policy. If you would like to destroy your lungs while eating, do it at home and allow other people to enjoy their meal.

Cruxus, I'm not sure who you were siding with there....

Doesn't matter. I hate smoke and cigarettes. Make no mistake. I just consider myself a big boy and can choose the restaurant on my own. I don't need daddy government to force everyone to live that way.

The damn republicans better not waste this opportunity to desocialize the country. I was playing with the budget the other day, and I managed to cut a couple hundred billion in about 15 minutes. It was cool.

I wasn't going to vote. And then I did. Ahhh the hypocrocy of it all.

Turns out the booths were right at the end of my street in a church. I was out checking the mail... went over... they said, "Are going to vote!" I said, "Is my name on the list." They said, "Yep".

And there I was staring at a half a page of judges that wanted to keep there jobs. Having only seen a couple of judges in my life... I figured 'Yes' was the correct answer to those questions.

As far as everything else.... it was all a blur.

I'm kinda disturbed that you know any judges well enough to recognize their names...

I'm kinda disturbed that in the most powerful democracy in the world, at a time where the worlds future is at stake, less than 50% of voters bother to vote.

But then I come from a place where >95% of voters turn out (or get fined $20).

The news reports even said this was a big turn out because of the interest of minority groups in the referendum.

All the news reports here say it is a resounding victory for GWB's war on Iraq. The people here seem more concerned with the price of smokes.

Normally mid terms only get 30 to 40%. Does that mean most people in the US would prefer NO government as they can't be bothered choosing one?

    Who care about vote???
Nobody care about of your vote power any way.
Living in this century of Hi-Technology, but cheating and stealing votes still happens, and this problem is still going on and on because political parties nurture it and dont want to strongly resolve this problem. It's really ridiculous to
hear that voting machines got errors or counting machines count
the votes wrong, networks announce incorrectly and many more problems. Who believe that???
With this era of modern and high Technology, even a cent in a
vending machine(without human monitor) get count correctly and
exactly. If the coke costs 50 cents and you just put in the vending machine 49 cents, you never have chance to have a drink unless
begging one more cent from people around you.
People will fed up with this kind of suck election voting.
