    Which version of Microsoft C++ should I get

    I found a site that gives student discounts for Software http://www.journeyed.com (legal by the way) and I just want to know, which version of Visual Studio.net should I get, pro, or standard. I mean, I know pro is the top of the line, but shoud I spend all that money. I mean, what is the difference. I can still make C++ programs on standard right?

    If you're using Win98/ME then go with VC++6 because you can't use VC++.NET anyway

    If you're using WinNT/2K/XP then go with VC++.NET because it's almost the same price as VC++6

    You can decide for yourself about which edition of VC++ you want to get (they differ in the different version)

    Visual C++.NET edition comparison
    Visual C++ 6 edition comparison

    I do plan to get .NET, but i am just starting out so i wouldn't benifit from its high end extras. >NET is what we use at school, and scince it automatiaclly inserts code for u i think it may tend to learn bad habits into a newbie....just imo tho

    i'm sure u can start an empty project like in standerd i jus don't care to find it : /

    You could always backspace it also, but a newbie may not know these things or take time to learn, then should they start from a blank and have to declare main, they would be all screwed up.

    There is nothing you can do in VC++6 that you can't in .NET

    And those auto-complete things can be turned off (I like them)

    done, I'm gonna send the order. You should check out that site, cheap stuff. You can just threaten a college student to buy him the software for you and you will pay him back. I doubt there are restrictions. But 99 priced down from $1000+, thats good.
