VB. Shadow has a good point, if you learm c/c++ the rest come much easier. Going from vb to c++ realyy made me wonder what was the visual part of visual c++, at least the first couple semesters where we only did console programs.
Using Delphi & starting embedded vb at work, though.

Pascal for about two weeks but now of course it's c++ (for about the past 7 months)

But I'm taking a Pascal programming class in school, because there is nothing better to take. It is so annoying having to go back to using Pascal. It's weird, during the day I'm in Pascal mode then when I get home I have to shift back into c++ mode. I get asked way too many questions about programming this year at school...come on people if I could figure it out then you sure can too.

Well, I assume that nobody is going to count Batch, and I'm not sure it was first anyway...so I said Q-Basic. I read a book on GW-Basic (super old school) and just applied it to Q-basic. I was a 4th grader.

I started with BASIC when I was 12 (for about half a year). Then a few years nothing. When I was 16 I started programming again (Pascal / assembly 6809).

C++. After that everything else (other than assembler) looked like kiddie crap to me.

PASCAL really should be up there cause an awful lot of people learn to code on PASCAL. I learned on Commodore64's version of BASIC. I think I was about 8 years old when I wrote my first "hello world"

My first attempt was in BASIC at school, when I was 14 and had no idea about computers at all. Pascal was the second but I didn't like it.

On a little side note, did you ever notice that some people always feel the urge to mention some incredibly young age in which they learned programming; as if one had the neuron connections to understand the logic at those ages (which, according to modern psychology, they don't).

On the same note, I wrote my first major COBOL database at the tender age of 1 and 1/2; you wouldn't believe how hard it was to work with those Unix AT&T boxes when I was constantly making poopies in my diaper.

well I started just before I turned 14. I'm now 15 and becuase I started at that age its all been easier.

i wanted to start @ C++ but my comp sci one class was VB n i had to pass it to take CS2.

I dont like vb, if your study'n vb (and not planning to stay in just vb) it teaches bad habits when u go to other languages.

It think, that my first language was Russian (-> cause I'm a Russian guy-> but I live in Germany and study there), than German, than
English after it French and now Latin. (-> I hope that I learn Spanish next year).

But the first language for programming, I learned was HTML (-> but it is not really a programming language, it's a style formatting language -> SGML).

After it I learned JavaScript.

And many other languages (Perl, PHP, SQL, XML, Java, Python,....).
But I have never learned Basic, yes a bit VBS, but not more.

At the end C++ and Assembly!

Maybe some TPascal -> Delphi!!!!

Now, I'm gonna learn OpenGL and DirectX programming with C/C++.

well, scourfish, there isn't much logic involved in Basic languages. They're simple, and laced with gotos. Any above average elementary student with an interest for it can handle it.
