    Moderator Election Update

While the tampering in the election was disappointing to me personally and, more importantly, to the candidates involved, and while it was very unfortunate for the board, it is most important to remember it was only one person who tampered with the votes and violated the trust of the community.

Had nothing else happened, Prelude would have had nearly a fifty percent vote; unfortunately, in a PM she expressed a desire to withdraw her candidacy, a decision she told me was independent of the recent revelations.

The tampering has left everyone in an unfortunate position: it is very hard to choose how to act without letting this event affect our actions. Yet we must not let the actions of only a single person damage the board's democratic nature.

Because Prelude does not wish to be a moderator, and because we do not know if our second place candidate would have received a definite fifty percent majority, I think the only option is to have a carefully watched revote (and that is possible. Rest assured that tampering with the next election will be impossible.).

I hope that none of the candidates will withdraw as a direct result of the tampering -- to do so is to let a childish prankster overcome an entire community. Instead, let us go on from here more watchful but not more distrustful -- because Prelude's decision is independent of the tampering, a revote is, I believe, fair. Regretably, there may be a bitter taste in the mouths of some of the candidates involved, and I do not wish to force anyone to take part in the next vote: previous candidates, please let me know immediately if you wish to be a part of the revote. If you do or do not, please reply to this thread.

To the candidates affected, I apologize for not being more watchful. To the community, I apologize for not being more watchful. To the cheater, I am now watching you.

After all of the candidates have replied -- or after a period of forty-eight hours -- voting will restart. I believe it is only reasonable to keep all candidates who do not reply in the election -- the point is to allow those feeling uncomfortable continuing in the present cycle of elections to step out gracefully, not to weed out those who might have been away from the board for a short time.

Although i do not wish to run for fear of absolute embarassment at fordy's hands, i will anyway in the good democratic spirit that i wish Cprog to uphold.

umm.. in other words: i'm in.

    exclude me in this one.

This election should prove interesting. There's no-one really popular of the group. Prelude's been supporting hammer, and of the group he seems most capable, so i'll support him, too.

this should technically not be a popularity contest, and my sincerest hope is that fordy will remain in the runnings.

    What is going on?

If Fordy and Prelude are out then the two best candidates (IMHO) are gone.

I think the members have shown that they want one of these two people to be the moderator (even I voted for one of them).

I hope we can convince at least one of them to run again.

OK, so I will remain in the vote (though I would have prefered a vote just between Fordy and Prelude).

Take a look at the last few posts on the voting thread. Someone tampered with the election by creating multiple accounts and voting for Fordy. He then conceded the election to Prelude, whom I PMed to ensure she wished to be a moderator (as she was waffling), and she informed me that, for reasons unrelated to the tampering [I don't want to put words in her mouth, so I won't explain her exact reasons], she did not want to be a moderator.

In light of Prelude's decision and all your support I would like to put my name forward for the revote.

I must say that I was very suprised at Preludes decision, but for her honesty in her decision I commend her.

Thank you all for your support and understanding so far....hopefully this round will be more fair and conclusive than the last.

May the the best person win.

    > Who was the person creating multiple accounts?

I don't think that's something that should be said. Fordy knows, the mods know, and most importantly, the person that did it knows.
