free subscription to Game Developers Magazine

huge discount of GDC (Game Developers Conference)...i think it is 50% off...but not quite sure...i'd have to check on that...

    scholarships for students

IGDA chapter meetings in your area...where you get to meet pro game programmers...I believe John Romero is very active in the Dallas chapter if you want to meet him. I have met all the top people of Timegate Studios here in Houston at the Houston IGDA meeting...so you really get to know the people in the field and establish connections. A guy from id Software is actually the chairman of IGDA...forgot which guy though...

you also get huge discounts on several programming books, including ones on AI, game programming, etc.

There is A LOT more...but i dont got it all memorized...

yeah, the activity of your chapter does depend on where you live. Texas fortunately has a lot of game companies, so its chapters are pretty active, although I have heard that Austin's isnt...

    >$$$ is the requirement.

It depends, if you are a student in high school, college, etc., membership is only $25 a year! Thats why I joined.

All you have to do is submit a student ID with your membership application.

That means I have several more years of being a student remaining, woohoo!

Now if you are not a student, then it is $100 a year...a bit more pricey.....but still, it is a great organization to be a part of...
