    What happened to the GD?

As more and more "old board people" come back to the boards and are posting again on the GD (Ken, rick etc), and with URL=http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=19]a History of CP.com[/URL] the I've started to wonder what happened to the board.

It used to be that 60% of the topics on the GD had nothing to do with computers. There were debates about current events, books, games, heck even philosiphy every once and a while. Now the boad is much queiter and everything is about computers...it's almost depressing that we're just concentrating on work now. I wonder why.

a bunch of us are students. without school (yay!) focusing on what you call work is less of a chore and more of a release. we can save things like the 'clinton' debate for times when we don't want to handle work on our free time.

That's quite true ygf... I imagine things will get back to more "free" discussion when most of the people here get back to school.

Wow, I think you're the first person ever to complain that the GD board had *too much* content, kermi..

no no no, I don't wish there was less content. Just diffrent content. It's nice to have content sometimes that's intelectual and not 100% about computers.

    For Example:

    http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/s...&threadid=1335

    http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/s...&threadid=9057

    http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/s...&threadid=9060

    http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/s...&threadid=9041

    There's more but I won't search more.

And I haven't decided if I'm complainng or observing...I'm probably just resisting change,

Could the current flood of computing subject matter because there are so many new people running around every day that have not been here long enough to feel comfortable and really get down to business?

I dunno, kermi3.. i've been here for about a year (i think i was within the first 50 to sign up here...?) and way back a few months into this fiasco we were all rather comfortable with each other, and we all knew, in general, the attitudes of others and what to say and what not to say around them. The fact that there have been so many new (and maybe many personality-less) personalities floating around may have caused a choke on the stream of the more layed back, "i'll post my opinion, and i know you won't flame me, because we are cprog board brothers" type posts (like many of those that you posted links to above).

In short: maybe the newbies have tightened things up to an uncomfortable level around here?

    I agree with Aran, actually...

and it's funny you should mention this, Kermi3...when I first saw that board, I thought it was a collection of *good* posts, but it turns out that it was just the fact that the majority of the posts back then were just plain good.

I think it's a matter of relation here and perspective here, -ken-.
