hello, internet!
>Does anyone else take pride in writing useful utilities and releasing them under the GNU-GPL?
I take pride in all of my code. But if I feel that a program won't make me a fortune so that I can retire before 25 I'd be more than happy to release it under GNU-GPL.
-Prelude
My best code is written with the delete key.

No.
Now don't get me wrong; I'm all for open-source software when the situation calls for it. But, IMO, there are other better licenses than GPL. It's also IMO that GPL is pretty over-rated.
*puts on flame coat*
what free software lisence(s) do you favor over the gnu-gpl?
hello, internet!
moi, that was intentional, right?
I'm assuming you are using the qwerty style keyboard so bare with me.
asdf jkl; <- main finger resting keys
when you type "where", your left hand does most of the typing.
you only use the right hand fir the "h" key.
now how can you type "o" instead of an "e"?
I've tried typing "where" a few times and all of them showed no "o"'s in them.
your right hand must be slippery at the keyboard sometimes.
sorry if I was offensive to you but how did you do it?
I've typed up a full page on Word and all of them showed no "o"'s.
my right hand just shifts to the left after my left index finger hits the "w" key and that's the only time I move my right hand when typing "where".
I admit that I make many typos but this typo is unique.
imagine having this typo when chatting on AIM. lol.
think only with code.
write only with source.
well, does being a "GPL where" make any sense? heh heh hehOriginally posted by toaster

You've got 2 years Prelude.
We'll form a team. You write the software, I'll write the makefiles.
Get on it!...
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.
Most individuals are not strong enough to release code under the GPL. At any rate the GPL is a good thing for the computer science industry. It is the best possible way to research and learn how to construct large scale applications. If we did not have such resources than we would be victoms of an oligarchy.
It's one thing to use a wrapper, it's another thing to understand what a wrapper is, and it's a miracle if they let you write your own wrappers.
Actually, I am pretty sure any random, skillless person can release code under the GPL (see sig )

You need to be able to bench press at least 225 lbs, with olympic free weights, before you can publish under the GPL. That is their standard, it is strange, but they only want the toughest programmers.
oh nm, i thought you had something useful/on topic/intelligent to say
hello, internet!
Heh, it's funny how most people on this thread completely ignored the topic at hand.
>what free software lisence(s) do you favor over the gnu-gpl?<
Specifically, the MIT and BSD licenses are better for my needs. The main problem _I_ have with the GPL, is the "virus effect" it brings...
