    linux kernel 2.5

for all you linux users out there:
i want to upgrade my kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.5.something. the problem with 2.5 is that its a development version and some kernel builds have significant bugs in them (2.5.8, 2.5.29, and 2.5.18). has anyone here downloaded and successfully built a 2.5.* kernel? i'm using the 2.4.19-pre4 right now, but i want to upgrade for newer technology purposes.

decided to stick with 2.4.18, for simplicity's sake.

another question: has anyone successfully installed the ti-89 linux driver for the calculator, without some kind of compiler error?

Why would you want to put linux on a ti-89? Or are you trying to install a calculator environment simulator on linux?

We have Linux on watches and mobile phones, why not a calculator? Maybe then it will support a decent scripting language.

actually, neither. i meant the calculator to computer link. if you have read my previous threads, you'll find out how much grief my windows driver has caused me. currently, it's the only one that works. tilp created a usb linux kernel module that works with silverlink (my link cable) but i can't compile it because of some technical error. that driver comes with the 2.5.xx kernel, however, so i thought that i would upgrade my kernel and get the link driver as a bonus. little did i know how buggy 2.5.xx kernels are. (2.5.xx is the development version, so it's supposed to be buggy).

another reason i'm trying to get the linux thing to work is because my internet connection in win98 has gone awol without a trace. it's so much more convienent to stick to linux and transfer my files here when i need to.

here's the source i'm trying to compile (only works in linux):
    http://www.ticalc.org/pub/unix/ti_usblink.tar.gz
i've been thinking there's something i haven't installed, but i'm out of ideas.

    here's the web page:
