This is a general description of the system:how is college in the UK organized?
We go to high school till we are 16 and do our GCSE's (General Certificate of Secondary Education). They are pretty worthless though. Then you have the choice of going to college, staying at school or leaving education. At college or school you can do a vocational course or A-Levels (Advanced Levels). A-Levels are academic extentions of GCSE's and last for 2 years. You usually do 3 of them. If at 18 you have done A-Levels then you can go to university. The better scores you get in your A-Levels the better uni you can go to (there are a lot of c**p uni's in England and a few excellent ones). University lasts for 3 years and if you get a 2.1 class degree or higher you can do a Masters for 1 year.
I was fortunate in that I worked my ..........e off during my Maths, Physics and Biology A-Levels, went to a great university and am doing what is known as a "Fast Track" degree programme so I bypass the bachelors degree and go straight for the masters.

Secondary school until 12th grade (so, you're usually 17-18), and if you've passed enough classes, you get your diploma. During high school, you usually take some tests (SAT and ACT) so colleges have grounds to deny you admission because you suck. Usually, during your last year of high school, you apply to various schools and pick the one that best suits you (you cn afford, offers your major, etc). Then, it's off to college, if you decide to go. Some people choose community colleges first, which are smaller schools that are usually a jumping off point to a bigger college. There's more, but I don't feel like typing anymore...

The best education is the most rounded education, and a good measure of success in life in general (not everyone has access to education) is having accumulated some material possesions and maintianed your health, in your later years. Most people fail in one or both of these areas.

about that, you can also double major... [one set of GEs, and in a few me and my friends will be gEECS]and it wouldn't be completely useless, how about it would be fun and you truly love life and knowledge? and don't say "oh, well when you have 3 term papers due next thursday, you'll change your mind"... because not only have i cut the multiple APs in HS but also have taken some courses at the local CC to make my BS trek at least a _little_ [emphasis on the world 'little'] easier... so... haha... we shall see...
and anyone who doesn't want to be there just for the experience alone is sure missing out...
